On the menu tonight, pork chops, des petits ognions et du gratin dauphinois. I only served the pork because I figured D might not be so impressed by just potatoes. All I wanted though was le gratin and it was fantastic. It totally hit the spot. It was buttery and cheesy and potatoey. Pure comfort food for me. I had forgotten how easy it is to make.
I am waiting for D to come back from his last minute run to the store to get his dad a bday present (we're meeting for brunch tomorrow) so we can try the chocolate velvet fudge cake. I am was not impressed by the recipe during the making of the cake, but I am still looking forward to trying it. It smells sopretty, very chocolatey.
All of these attempts at cooking make me realize how many cooking tools/pots/pans I do not have. It's fine to make cake batter with a hand mixer but a kitchenaid would be mighty useful. I also do not own any kind of fancy bakeware. I have been drooling over bundt pans and dutch ovens. This year, I will try to acquire more quality cookware. I also need better knife skills. I mean I can slice a potatoe alright, but I can assure you that not all slices were 1/8 of an inch!
I enjoy cooking, I am trying not to put any pressure on me. I will try to cook something nice if I am around during the week end. If I can't, no big deal. Same with the cakes.
How many of you write notes in their cookbooks?
