Austinites: I need a new vet

Feb 22, 2008 17:17

I'm done with our vet. She's terrible. Simply terrible. I'm just done.

I need a new vet that is caring and is GOOD! We've taken our dogs to the same vet since we've had them. They've had skin irritations and other problems for forever and just this year she tells us to change their food to hypoallergenic. Their new food has made a WORLD of ( Read more... )

When it's not an emergency at an odd time of the day and we're forced to go to the emergency clinic, we take our cat and bird (and previous birds) to Anderson Mill Animal Clinic. I've been going there for 10 years.

They are on 183, just north of Anderson Road on the southbound side.

I started going there because my officemate's wife worked there as a vet. She still works there (and damn, they now have THREE kids!!), but she doesn't deal with birds so I've actually probably never met her.

During the week, it's best to make an appointment. For the bird, I usually go on Saturdays where it's first come, first served.

I figured you would have a good one with so many "babies", but RR is too out of the way. If they are really good though, we might check them out.

I live in north Austin, but my vet is in Cedar Park. I love them. When I was dealing with Willie's (in icon) cancer, they gave me all the options I had, let me choose which one, and did it. They are always patient, they always answer my questions completely. I've been in an exam room for over half an hour because I wanted all the information I could get (this was before Willie's first surgery).

The front desk staff is wonderfully friendly. On a rare occasion they'll be a bit fried, but we all have those kind of days at our jobs.

Oh! And they're decently priced. When we first got Velcro she was tiny and covered in fleas (like, I could actually see them walking across her face). I took her to the vet right down the road from where we lived (which was off Jollyville at the time). They did her exam, gave me her age (which was 5 weeks! Man I was pissed!), and gave me flea stuff, advise, blahblah. The bill was a lot higher than I expected. When I got home I called up our regular vet and told them what had happened, then asked ( ... )

Wow...great feedback. Thank you. Cedar Park is a little far, but might be worth it for "the babies".

mine is in Oak Hill, so probably not convenient for you.

Yeah, not very convenient, but do you like them? Could be good to know in case someone asks me who lives in that area.

We use Dr. Delaney at Arbor Animal Clinic.

Casey had very sensitive skin. I used Eukanuba and/or Iams for his food. I would add a fish oil supplement to the dog food and it took care of his skin issues. You can buy it by the bottle at the pet store, just squeeze it on their food.

Casey was also allergic to fleas. It always cost us a lot if he got bit.

They were on Iams for forever and then we switch to this all natural hypoallergenic food and they are sooooo much better now. Jo is way allergic to fleas too. :( That was pure misery.

So do you like Dr. Delaney?? We've been considering Arbor Animal Clinic because we used to know someone who worked there.

We are happy with her. We have been with them for a long time now, probably 8 years. They were very supportive when Casey passed, though he didn't pass with them. I ended up putting him down at the emergency clinic in the middle of the night. They sent me a nice card when they found out.

They have really early appointments which is great as well as Saturday hours. In fact, our pups are going there tomorrow morning at 7:15a.

I just mention the fish oil as an alternative if the Hypoallergenic stuff becomes too expensive.

Cool...we just might check them out. Thanks again.

And the hypoallergenic food costs the same as Iams!
