Back Again
Finally back in the UK to work on my dissertation/find a job and wow I really failed at updating while I was gone. Oops. In any case, I had an awesome time and fully plan on posting pics at some point when I am feeling less lazy. Especially because takadainmate and I went on an epic roadtrip where we visited The House on the Rock, the Ultraviolet Apocalypse, and Springfield, Illinois (for a Lincoln pilgrimage). All of these things clearly need to be talked about at more length but just require too much effort at the moment. We also had an awesome time in Chicago meeting up with thehoyden, ontogenesis, reppu, and omlteaufromage. It was like a Japan family reunion! I also got to meet my new niece for the first time (ttly adorable), go on a family trip to the beach, and visit aurora_ren in Colorado where we did even more awesome stuff. So definitely a good summer holiday even if I didn't get to go to ComicCon. (Next year!)
While I was home I also got a Sony E-Reader as a late birthday present from the fam, and I am loving it! I don't think I've ever read so much fic! It's nice to be able to just take it with me when I'm traveling or picking it up to read in bed or on the train. It's just so much easier on the eyes than a computer screen. thehoyden also linked me to the fanfic_ebooks community and Archive which answers pretty much every question I would want to know about converting fic into ereader formatting as well as a whole archive full of fics that have already been converted. Of course, all of this fic is not very conducive to working on my dissertation, but I am still loving it.
Other things I am loving at the moment -
*The new Sherlock show on the BBC - Okay, this is kind of a given since I have a huge SH fixation anyway, but I still love it. Episode 2 wasn't nearly as good as episode 1, but I still loved the characters enough to enjoy it thoroughly. I'm hoping for more character development in episode 3! And if you're looking for good Sherlock fic, this fic by phantomjam was amazing!
*The spn_j2_bigbang - This com is tiding me over while I wait for the Dean/Cas big bang. Kind of a mixed bag this year, but there have still been quite a few stories that I enjoyed. It helps that I have started reading j2 fic since I would say about 70% of the stories are RPS.
*This vid of Misha, Jim, and Jensen from ComicCon. So freaking adorable! Particularly what happens around the 2:15 mark.
*The uk_lolitics com - I don't think I would have appreciated my visit to the Houses of Parliament over the weekend nearly so much if it hadn't been for them. Thank you lolitics!! (Also, I ttly got to touch David Cameron and Nick Clegg's personal mailboxes!)
*OMG, the new chapter of xxxHolic!!! So beautiful and so much h/c! Now if only I could find the Japanese version...
So in summary, things are good, and I promise to post on a more regular basis this month!
