Intrusions

Well, it's official. I now have an art thief.

I have been on DA for two years now and only have like what? a little over a thousand page views and for some reason this chick up and decides 'Hey, I think I'll steal the one popular piece in this girl's gallery'. To add insult to injury, it's not even one of the pieces that I really like.

Here's the link:

Anyway, so I get this message on Friday from some girl I don't know, saying that I should check out this link and that they'd 'already reported it'. I checked the link, but the deviation had already been removed. Needless to say I assumed it was concerning art theft, but I wanted to make sure so i asked for more information and it turns out I was right. But, since it was already removed and what not, I didn't really dwell on it. I mean, what's done is done right?

Or so I thought...

So I get this message today from the same girl as before informing me that this 'artist' had put it up again. So I follow the link and sure enough, there it is--my piece staring me in the face. And below it is the caption 'this one of my best art projects and DA say's it's not my art so yah. here is titel that it is saved under....Eragon_by_Jessica'. So yeah, basically I wanted to hunt her down and kill her on the spot. But I restrained myself, only making two comments on the pic, and was starting to calm down when I exited out to her profile page and saw to my disgust a journal bemoaning the fact that DA had removed a handful of images from her gallery because of copyright infringment. I became enraged. I mean, who the freaking crap has the right to complain that they're being punished for breaking the law? I mean, she's still trying to seriously claim that the artwork is hers, even though there have been a couple of accusations of theft on her profile page.

I just don't get it. I mean, I posted the thing like two years ago, and I've given permission to a couple of fansites to post it, so it's not like it's a pretty established fact that the piece is originally mine. Not to mention the fact that it's not a digital piece, it's pencil, and I didn't even post the entirety of the original. Arghhhhhhhhh...

What I don't get about all this stuff, is that it's not like it's an amazing piece, heck I don't even like it that much and I'm the one that drew it. And it's not like I make any money off of it since I don't even offer prints, so I fail to see what in the world her motivation is in continuing with this charade. I mean I can understand (not support) trying to sell fakes or illegally selling prints or something. But I mean, what kind of pathetic idiot really needs to steal someone else's work just to get an ego boost?

urusai...

The only good thing about all this is the girl that's helped me out with it all, from first informing me of it, to actually going to the trouble of keeping her eye on this girl for me. And I mean, it's not like we even know each other, let alone watch each other's galleries. I guess, with the good comes the bad... And seriously, I'm glad to know that while there are freaks out there, there're also people that'll help you beat the crap out of 'em. ^___-
