My eyes they melt.

My bottle of Scherezade is actually older than that by a few months. It's really lovely, I just never wear it anymore.

I don't care about breaking even; I gave up on that ages ago. I just want a little money for the stuff I'm not using. So...um...

...

Goddammit. Will someone just tell me what the hell to ask for these bottles so I can get rid of them? And since you want the Scherezade, you set your price. I don't care.

Why do they confuse you so, darling?

(If you have ANY curiosity at all about why we get the way we do over these perfumes, I'd be glad to talk you through it. It was majorly overwhelming for me at first, but I developed a system that worked really well for me and for several others who have been enabled.)

Maybe it's because I'm not a huge perfume person, but I don't get the big deal, how BPAL works, the insanity of trading 5ml of liquid for $30.

What so special about BPAL from other perfumes? Are they easier to mix? Smell better?

Yes it does, thank you :)

I think the lot of it is a fair bit complex, and with my lack of interest in perfume(not that I hate perfume. Good perfume is good of course!) it hard to really get into and understand the fervor surrounding.
Are they more powerful than regular perfume? Because the other thing that totally boggles me are the amounts(5ml? 10ml?). How can you mix at such small quantities and get your blends right? how long do they last?

Well, there's a BPAL (...or several...) for everyone. The trick is to find one that YOU like. It's a bit overwhelming to look over the catalog, isn't it? I was like WAAAAAAAAAAT when I first encountered it ( ... )

If so many of them react to your own body chemistry, how can you know if you'll like it? It sounds like you'll be spending money for what could be a dud :\ OTOH, I assume that's why there is so much trading that goes on with them?
I don't think I could buy a perfume without trying it first. That's probably why I don't usually have any :P
How do you put perfume in your hair? Spray it, or rub it? I've never known you could do that.

Yes, I meant how long does the bottle last, partially because I don't know how much you use each time you apply it. I presume not very much. Just a drop or two? Or does it vary of the scent/how it reacts?

I really hope I'm not coming of as negative or something. This shit it so foreign to me, so I don't get some of it.

Well, for me, I had an idea of what I'd like and what would work on me because I've always loved perfumes and knew the notes that were in the ones that I loved. So when I decided to check out BPAL, I sat down and combed through the catalog looking for stuff that had lilies in it or were warm and spicy-sounding, for instance, and avoiding the really foody stuff. Then I narrowed stuff down based on concepts, and so the first imps I went for were Scherezade, Suspiro, Tiger Lily and Sea of Glass. Scherezade, Suspiro and Tiger Lily were all chosen because I a) loved the concepts and b) KNEW the notes would work on me, and they did. Sea of Glass I bought just because I liked the name and hoped it'd work on me. (I'm not talking buying bottles...BPAL sells wee little samples of their GC stuff called imps. They can last several applications unless you spill them or really slosh it on.) Scherezade and Suspiro were among my first bottle purchases, while Tiger Lily and Sea of Glass I passed on. I loved the way they smelled, but they just weren't ( ... )

The whole thing sounds really cool, and I probably wouldn't mind checking some out, but I'm just not a risk-taker. I'd be going into the whole thing a complete newb(I know nothing about perfumes, oils, what's good or not as you've seen), and I don't like getting stuff without knowing lol. How big are the imps? Are they for the situation of "testing" the scent? Are BPALS available in store or by catalogue/online only?

The trading comes off as really intensive, but I suppose only if you're hardcore into the BPAL scents and have collections and experience.

I will definitely say I have learned a lot :P

The imps are like...1/32 oz. Enough to test for a couple weeks at least. Do you own any perfumes, body sprays, etc? Or even just things that you think smell good? That could help you start figuring out what you DO like.

There are some select retail locations where BPAL is sold, but mostly they're available by catalog only. If you check out the forums, though, there are often Meet & Sniffs, where people get together and share perfumes, have dinner, have a picnic or party or something. I've been to a few, they're very pleasant. It's a good way to check out perfumes you don't have.

It's entirely possible that if you did want to try some, that could be arranged. :) My first imps were gifts from bainidhe_dub, so...I like to frimp people to enable them. :)

I have a thing of body spray which I sort of like (the scent is Orange cream popsicles, which I do like, but there is a chemical smell to it, which I don't :( ).

I might think about it then. I assume a catalogue of some sort is available online (or through the BPAL forum? Is that some kind of offical forum or something?)

Goddammit, the browser shut down and ate my very long response.

Yes, the Lab has a website. It's where the vast majority of its business is conducted. They list a description of the perfumes, typically complete with inspiration and such. It can be found here. The forums are not run by the Lab, but the Lab staff have a definite presence there--they sometimes make forum-only blends, and all the updates are posted on the forums. There's also a huge review section, where you can read other people's takes on every blend that ever was, basically ( ... )
