lj reboot reveal

Whee! My first reboot! I've been watching the community since it started but I didn't really take the plunge into designing a new layout until this one.

Okay, so the process. I started thinking about it in the summer that I wanted a layout with three things:

1. A nice, clean layout with a white background. It's not that I didn't like my pink one from before, but it was kind of hard on the eyes after a little while.

2. A non-fandom layout. Just because.

3. A pretty sidebar with tags included.

I fiddled around in photoshop and finally decided to go with a design like

As you can see, it doesn't have quite so much colour and sidebar is further down.

I started out with grrliz's Opal tutorial. I'm still pretty illiterate when it comes to CSS and this was my first time working with the paid account's layers so this was a bit of a steep learning curve. And I don't really like asking for help, so it was a lot of trial and error. This layout is still pretty basic. I didn't manage to do everything that I wanted this time around- I'd still like to work on changing the comment links into pictures like the Boxer layouts and also make the sidebar a little more fancy.

*shrugs* But I think this was a pretty decent try for the first time around and I do like how it turned out.

A few more things:

- The pictures in my layout are ones my brother took. Photography is his hobby and he's pretty damn good, in my opinion.

- The colours for my layout are inspired by ll-rocks Illinoise icon. Thanks Rene, and cool icon!

- I haven't decided about whether to display my userpics on recent entries page. They're all there on my specific entries and all the rest of the pages but hmm, I don't know. I'll worry about that later.

Yeah, that's about it. Feel free to ask any questions. :)

Oh- and go check out the other designs at the-lj-reboot. There's some pretty awesome and pretty layouts there!

*goes to bed*
