when five fell

when five fell
all of SHINee (non-ot5). AU.
romance, g. Based on and inspired by WFP's short film When Five Fell.

Love comes in unexpected places, from unexpected things.

Scribbled down in 20 minutes. Stream of consciousness, doesn't make sense. Premise taken from WongFu Productions' When Five Fell. Amazing. You may watch it before or after you read, but do watch it regardless.

EDIT: Judging from the comments, I think it'd be better to watch the film first. Click away!

Taemin is first.

It's him, first. Everyday. No matter what. She needs him to face the world. He is the one who takes her to see the beautiful world. He is the one who wipes away the smudged lines, the blurred colours. They do not part from her waking moment to the one where her eyes droop shut with sleep. How could they? There is nothing for him to see without her. He wonders if she knows the beauty of the world will still rise for her without him. Someday, she will. This is what he is afraid of.

Minho is second. He wakes up to the sound of her voice. It is often rough-hewn by sleep and she sometimes stumbles over her words. he catches all of them, because they are hers. And so, they are beautiful. She tells him everything while he remains silent, trying to tuck away each  one to  remember what is not his. Sometimes, they spill out over her lips and fingers and he feels guilty. They are not for him, he knows. He knows the sound of her voice.

Kibum is third. One touch from her is enough to make him flare out and protect her against the world. The rain is cold, but her fingers are hot against him. She tells him she wants to be a raindrop. Raindrops are never lonely. He thinks of the raindrops, each tracing their solitary path down to her and says nothing. She is warm and dry, and he fights to keep them from reaching her regardless of what she says. She doesn't mind falling, she says. He looks down to see one hand outstretched in the rain; it's cold and wet when she touches him again. He can't flinch away.

Jonghyun is fourth. To him, she is the mint that floats around her, one her hair and in her breath. Incense is on rare days when she holds him especially close; lemon comes once every other week and her fingers will feel particularly dry. Then, there are those days where the scent of flowers hangs thick and overly sweet on the skin of her throat. It's unfamiliar and uncomfortable. He feels like he's drowning in roses to the point where he can't remember any other smell, but he soon gets accustomed to it. Those are the days she leaves him.

Jinki is last. It's usually so, her attention focused on Taemin or Minho, Kibum or Jonghyun. He doesn't mind though. She has never kissed them, they have never felt the tightening of her hand as she hums into him. It is his secret. The little patterns are ones he knows by heart. A worrying of the teeth, a soft flick of the tongue. He waits faithfully for her on the days he doesn't see her in the morning. She comes late at night when her lips are swollen and a little cracked.

She has never smiled like that before.

Tonight, she will fall for someone. With someone.

(They fell for her long ago. A pair of glasses. A scarf. A telephone. An umbrella. A cup. In love with her, living and breathing, awake and dreaming)

Tonight, she is a raindrop.

Urghhh. I am so unsatisfied with this piece of writing, I don't even. I have a physics exam on Monday and I should really be studying. Instead, WFP and Wesley Chan sucked me in with a beautiful actress and a heartbreaking little film. Yes, I realize my ending doesn't make sense. Yes, I realize SHINee has...um...no place being here. Yes, I realize Wesley Chan's masterpiece will never be matched by the above. But I needed to pound this out of my system anyway. Hope it wasn't too hard to read, and do tell me what you thought of the film! (Regardless of the quality of my writing)
