quiet desperation

I went to Spaceland tonight. I couldn't handle even one more night of checking yahoo!mail/hotmail/myspace/whatever else over, and over, and over, and over again. So I went to Spaceland and drank three 7 and 7s. It was the perfect quantity of liquid numbness.

The first band I saw was one member of The Shears. Whatever. After that was Castledoor. They were AMAZING. I tried to think how to describe them to you. They're kind of like Modest Mouse... except they don't sound like Modest Mouse. At all. I guess they're twee-pop like Belle and Sebastian, but not really. At times (miliseconds) they reminded me of The Shins, or maybe The Go! Team. (Neither band sounds anything alike!) Oh, and the lead singer has a voice like Michael Jackson. Then I realized that if I couldn't combine two or three bands to describe the artist I was seeing, then I must be seeing something truly original, ergo, something truly amazing. Buy Castledoor on iTunes.

The Procession followed. Poppy goodness. Very professional.

I stayed for a couple songs of The World Record, but I was tired.

Between Castledoor and The Procession, I called my ex to kind of appologize for not staying in touch like I said I would. I just didn't want to call her until I knew it wouldn't lower my self-esteem. It didn't. She understood. Well-played. The liquid courage helped.

I know I said this, but I *heart* Icky Thump
