modem issues

Yes, random rebootings.

I'm beginning to suspect it may be something in the computer as I click on a link and that may (or may not) send the modem rebooting. It's a 2Wire router/modem with wireless node that I got through what used to be Qwest, now Century Link. When it's working, it's great, though the wireless only got up to G, but it is the standard 801.11 protocal in any event.

I've had this happen before and I can't recall if there is a driver for it, or not, but the adjustments etc are done via an online portal, which I guess talks to the modem, and sets it.

Anyway, I can get most of the speeds I'm guaranteed which is over 6MBPS download, and close to spec on the uploads.

I've had it happen before, a call to the company got it cleared before, but the guy I talked to last night, I doubt knew all he was supposed to.

Anyway, while I had great speed, the random bootings, which just started late last week, and did it last night, and again this morning, though only twice so far. I woke the computer from sleep mode, and the modem went into a reboot, locked back to the internet, and did it again when I clicked on a page, reset itself and now seems fine.

Both last evening, and late last week, came home to it rebooting, at least when I went to awaken the computer from sleep mode, but for several minutes after that too before it finally settled down and worked like it should.

I may eventually just ditch this modem and get something else, but for now, it does the job.

dsl, modem
