Fritz and Cary

Thursday on Apartment therapy.com I saw a post where they were having a guest come to help a group of people in NYC and bring pictures of a problem room and then post on the site so us readers can chime in and they were having Fritz Karch as a special guest. He's the collector guru for Martha Stewart Living and is I think been w/ the mag since 1992. Anyway, the picture is probably a more recent one of him and despite the nicely shaped but shaggy beard, he's quite handsome IMO as he DOES tend to rock the shaggy beard well IMO, but it never hurts to be sartorially put together, even if in this wild getup of stripes  upon stripes and then plaid so I get the feeling this is how he is and thus an eccentric for he seems to rock this look well as well. I've seen other images and this seems to be his style. I have seen a shot of his office and it is as you'd expect, a state of organized mess :-) A huge cubby holed shelving system above the desk houses all kinds of books and collectibals stacked on top with old food molds that he's collected everywhere (initially for a piece in the mag but kept collecting).

Sadly I searched for him via Google and could not come up with an actual website for him alone, always linked to Martha Stewart however and several other pics where he's found w/ others, and one of them is the gay Jewish artist, Cary Leibowitz (formerly known as Candyass) and he's another bearded hottie who leans towards the sartorial sort at times himself but seems to like gingham patterns however and also lives in NYC as Fritz does.

Image courtesy of Artforum.com, I cropped to just these 3 men.

Here is Cary in the middle in yellow shirt, blue tie, Fritz on the right and an unidentified bearded art goer on his left at some art installation that Cary was in.

Sadly, no website for him either that I can find but he does art using all kinds of kitsch stuff, showcasing our penchant for purchasing such crap but does so with deprecating humor at his own Jewish upbringing as well as being another fag in town and all the guilts associated with both. I'm not sure I like his stylistic leanings but I can appreciate his humor when he does a framed print that says, get off your lazy bum or I'm sick of making art or mocking the pom pomed knitted golfing hats of yore as an installation or that kitschy doll many buy or that ugly mug from some state etc as part of his works. He is making a statement with his work, just not sure it's what I'd want in my house however.

I do know he's only a couple of years older than me (born in 1963). I'd take Fritz may be roughly the same age too.

Anyway, thought I'd share these 2 furry fellas. :-)
