Rites of spring

Mar 20, 2009 08:03

OK can we begin to warm up now? K thanks bai. It's been a long a dreary winter around here, what with the snow and all. I'm so over winter for a while.

Today marks the first day into spring although by looking outside it's anything but loverly out there but is I think still supposed to be at least semi sunny this weekend, or an improvement of sorts in anycase.

Went to make a sandwitch this morning and discovered I had no lunch meat so will hafta go buy a sammich at lunch time.

In a conversation with an online friend who's a fellow artist/creative type himself, the discussion got onto how I love MCM architecture and he had ventured on abouthow it was a time of innocence and all that and we were no where near that stage now. My response back was on how the fifties were not always what it seemed, anxiety over the cold war, the overt social frigidness/puritanical elements etc were just below the surface and that the wild exuberant architecture of the period was in many ways a facade. I just remembered that it was an actual time of exuberance for we had the longest period of prosperity and peace and with new technologies that had been developed during the war all accounted for this optimism. Anyway, a post on this is forthcoming.

So it's friday and I'm ready for the weekend. Yay and yet I don't feel excitement right now.

It could be that  it's dreary and damp out there but not cold, upper 40's at the moment.

So without further ado, time I check and see if the papers are here and if so, sort them and deliver.

mood, mid century, post, spring
