Start with writing. Or, er...not writing, in fact.
*sheepish face*
After being a determined writer since the age of eighteen, I appear to have lost my writing mojo. I hope not permanently. It got to a stage where it had become a chore that gave nothing back, very little pleasure and certainly no promise of financial reward, even small. I have produced a Second Edition of Family Bites, in other words Family Bites with all the bits I regretted adding taken out. I have four copies of the old 'crap cover' one left, and when they are sold I will certainly reprint it - with a different cover, of course, probably using one of my good friend Steelcat's (donbert or catosteel around here) astrophotography photos. But nothing new being written now, not for a while. I worked on a short story involving a Family Bites character (Richard Rivers) last year, but I didn't finish it.
And of course there was the Twitterature version, which started out as fun for a while, with lots of new exciting ideas, but not for long, and I didn't have much time to write it either. And not many people read it. That's the fact of life about being a writer, and I know my friend Jon Brierley (who used to be sloopjonb around here) will agree with me here. Sometimes you work hard on something and precisely two people read it. I'm not complaining or trying to make anyone feel guilty there - it's just a fact of life.
I think I need a new set of characters to write about maybe, and they need to not be vampires or werewolves. So many people think writing about vampires and werewolves means you were inspired by Twilight or True Blood or whatever. Gaz/the_hunter introduced me to someone last year who asked me what I wrote, and I had to hesitate before telling her the subject matter. Writing about vampires and werewolves is no longer cool, it seems.
I still think of myself as a writer and I'm sure I will write again in the future, possibly finish the sequel to FB (which has once again got to the point of three quarters through, the point where I had to abandon three other drafts and start again... *sigh*). I'm currently co-moderating an online version of the game Werewolf (along with Jan/Ssirienna, and Roy/rgemini and Discworld Convention goer Kirstine Heald in charge). I love writing things for that, so there's hope on the writing front yet :-)
And I shall post this to Facebook too, as I haven't really mentioned it there yet either
