Tomoko Yamashita

Aaagh, I love you Tomoko Yamashita...

Part of why I love reading BL is because of the twinges of longing and regret from regular romance novels are amplified by a bajillion just because of the tension and forbidden nature of the BL relationship.  (Whether or not it actually has any resemblance or not to an actual homosexual male relationship or not...)  I get my jolly bit of instant gratification fun with watching two good looking guys moan and groan stickily against each other, but then I also get to feel their yearning and suffering for love as well.  It's only lately that I realized that when reading a love story nothing is quite as good as witnessing the prolonged suffering of two incredibly worthy (and/or sizzling-hot) people.  Is BL turning me into a sadist?  I cry and weep along with them and enjoy every minute of it as my heart seizes up with vicarious agony.

And you, Ms Yamashita are the best at doing the job that I came to you for. Witness this page from her 2008 book "Illumination" in which the young 24 year old bartender realizes the object of his affection will never love him back, but he will try desperately for his love anyway, despairing as he watches himself repeat another cycle demonstrated in all his past relationships, struggling to not be alone.  THE SWEET SUFFERING
