Mommy .... its OVER!!! *sob*
Yes, Gencon is now complete for another year. As said in the last post we departed Indianapolis, cleared the hell of Chicago traffic and laid down in our usual return-home Best Western, complete with the owner who also attends Gencon herself. Rick inquired if they have a "frequent flopper's" discount ... which confused the poor lad at the reception desk ... but got us $10 off the stay (reminds me I need to hit up everyone for their share of the hotel cost for that soon) and we got further discount ... albeit small ... because we did not use the safe. Always remember, if your hotel room has a safe and you do not use it, let them know and they will discount it.
After roughly 12 hours of sleep, we then set off once aggain, down one side-mirror but no worse off for wear otherwise after the rest. After a few hours of driving, we passed two travelling homes (you know, its a full house on a trailer) and when passing one of them, we heard a sudden, violent "THUD" against the passenger side rear door of the car. "OH SHIT" we collectively think, pulling over to check ... finding only the smallest of nicks on the paint, so we continued driving, till we found the two truck-homes parked roadside aways down. We stopped, Rick and Dave wandered back to them to chat, find out what happened, get insurance info in case it was needed. Turned out, their truck had at some point hit a "gator skin" (shredded leftover of truck tire) which took out two of their wheels, and then spat a chunk out from under the truck at us ... so not their fault, but they cooperated all the same to be sure. So, now we know that Queen Fuckus Mark II has a DR of at least 15.
The remainder of the trip was uneventful, I got nominated to stay awake to try and keep the driver awake ... as always the wrong choice since I have a natural inclination to sleep in the car. But I managed to keep awake long enough for someone else to wake up and take over, and before long we were home!
So, next year, Gencon will be interesting ... we are planning on pulling down more friends if we can, and with the shit that happened at the Mariott ... likely able to bend a few people the right way to get a good rate on rooms on-site next year. Hell, we don't have a choice about it, with Dave and Laurie having kid(s) this coming year, they will have to have the room right there, otherwise they're never going to get to the convention. But this is all a year away, so we will plan our battle strategy to take this bridge once we get in range.
So that is it for Gencon this year. I am going to try and get more LJ going in future. I just wish there was some way of getting more than a "Sheldon has updated his LJ" notice in Facebook, as I have equal number of people who use one and not the other, and vice-versa. But we will see what happens in time.
EDIT: I have posted photos to my Facebook (
