Gencon Day 2 ... or "Somebody Gonna Get a Hurt Real Bad"

Aug 15, 2009 00:00

So Day 2 of Gencon has come and gone, a bit more relaxed day today, not a lot planned.

Again we started the day in the dealer's room, and looked at a few long jackets for potential towards upgrading my pirate garb ... unfortunately none of these were in my size, so that ended up fruitless. However we did hit the utilikilt booth ... and as of now I have means to live the pantsless life I have dreamed of without fear of public indecency laws getting in my way. Its a light material, with a beige/camouflage pattern that isn't too hideous ... Laurie, Dave and Rick, as well as two random passing girls all said I look good in it, so I got it ... and it was on sale for the cheap ... $180 after taxes and such, and got a t-shirt with it to boot! I wore it around the convention ... granted I still had my boxers on, but one thing at a time. I need to get a better belt, as if I wear it where I currently wear my pants, the belt bunches the kilt up a fair bit ... so I will need to start wearing it over my belly, it will take adjusting but I figure I can do it once I have the right belt ... or suspenders if a belt does not do the job.

From there, we wandered about the convention some more, hit the anime alley for awhile, watched the first two episodes of Kaze no Stigma while wandering about, and Rick commissioned a picture for himself ... cigar smoking succubus, his typical fetishes all combined. We then hit a bar for a quick drink, then back off wandering about the con. I returned to the dealer's room, perusing this and that, seeing what might be worth getting closer to the end once I know what I have left to spend ... and what I have left before being taxed at the border.

In my meandering, in the artist section of the dealer's hall, I found a booth, that at first I did not understand what I was looking at ... until I stopped and did a double-take, re-examining it for confirmation. Sure enough there was a booth for Snafu comics, being run by one of its atists (who is also the site owner/operator) selling various artworks from the different series/artists from their site. I got three badges for $5, supporting the artist Bleedman who draws some of my favorite web comics. Two were from Grim Tales, one of Jr and another of his mother Mandy. The third was a group shot of Zim, Gir, Gaz and Dib drawn in his style from the PPG comic he does. So now my Gencon badge holder has more shinies ... though that many badges of that size get cluttered asily, so I may leave them in the room when I go tomorrow, we will see.

In the evening we went to the G-rated dubbing panel, held by Vic Mignola and another voice actor whose name I have forgotten. They babbled on about getting into voice acting, and how while it pays well, the work does not come regularly enough to be an living income on its own, and such and such, then came the dubbing. Sadly due to limited time only a few people got to try their hands at it, not me sadly this year (probably for the best ... I'd have scarred them :P) but it was funny all the same. I also learned that, the voice acting for Japan is far different from that of the US (for anime) where in the US the actors do it one at a time watching the video to match the voice to the mouth movements, the Japanese actors are all in a room, taking their turns going through the script with a bunch of storyboards in front of them, and the rest animated in afterward.

Otherwise, it was an excellent day, till it came time to head back to the hotel. Upon getting the car out of valet parking, we learned that some schmuck had hit Dave's driver-side mirror when driving in/backing out of their space, propped it back up to make it appear nothing happened and fucked off without a word ... it was not done by the valet who parked it, as there would have been marking specific to the poles around the parking space (yellow poles) that it would have hit. So, the Marriott now is looking into if this was done by another valet, or if this was some other retard, and then looking into getting this fixed ASAP, as such damage would not been smiled upon at border crossing on the way home. I don't have the full details, I'm sure that Dave will post them in due time. I may/am likely be missing key points on this, all I know is the mirror was hanging when the guy brought it, and it was obvious he was not the one who did it.

Here's hoping all gets straightened out and tomorrow goes smoother. More reports when they come in. We should know tomorrow if we got into the second round of Nascraig or not, and we also have True Dungeon to attend, as well as the Hentai-Dubbing Extravaganza in the late evening, so it should be an interesting day.
