I worked last night (coffee shop, remember?) and it was pretty slow, it being a Tuesday afternoon and all at the mall. Since we're inside a huge music store, they play music and we can hear it because I think we have a speaker of theirs in our cafe. So anyway, they were playing one of their newer CDs, and since it's almost St. Pat's, it was Irish.
My manager was joking around about how I should river dance, and then it came to trying to coax me to do it, and so it continued. I was laughing and saying how I need to get the rhythm down and how I don't want to look like an idiot, so I'm not going to go full out dancing. She finally got her way though, and I did this little thing to her amusement. By this time, my boss had come out from the kitchen and he was amused as well.
A customer came in, and a bit flushed out of embarrassment, I said, "Can I help you, ma'am?" Well she about lost it this time. She said, "I cannot believe how pompous you are. You are making fun of my ancestors. We Irish are proud people and we won't tolerate this sort of humiliation. Who's your manager?"
I quirked and eyebrow and silently pointed to my manager, who said, "She's not making fun of you or faking her accent. She was born in Ireland."
The woman stormed out of the cafe, with my boss just sort of in a daze. Loony woman. -_- Sorry for expressing my heritage, you bitch! ><
