Chapter 1

-=-=-=-
Alex strode into the bullpen and straight over to the only two occupied desks in the middle of the pen. "Here's the warrant. It'll cover Mitchell's apartment. We just gotta be careful with anything that's not in plain sight." She handed the blue paper to Elliot's outstretched hand and nodded at the thankful look she received.

"I'll go tell Cragen that we're gonna go pay Mitchell a visit," Elliot said, standing and leaving his partner and the ADA.

Olivia let out a deep breath and looked up at Alex, "Hey." It wasn't much, but the answering sparkle in blue eyes had her smiling, even as wistful as it was.

"I'd ask how are you doing, but I don't want to piss you off," Alex said softly, leaning casually against the desk, but close enough where her hip brushed against the Detective's arm.

Olivia chuckled dryly. They had been on this case for three days, seemed like longer. All they had to go on at the moment was the body found was of one Chelsea Dunum, seven years old and lives…lived, with her mother Maddie Dunum and her stepfather Mitchell Dunum in the Bronx. Maddie was a store clerk and Mitchell a steelworker for the shipping yards. Mitchell also had a past conviction for assault and battery and meth possession along with a number of call outs to their apartment that turned into a ‘mistake’. She and Elliot had gone out to their place a few times to interview them, but their reactions had always been the same. Maddie was distraught and Mitchell was indifferent, saying Chelsea was always running off. Every time they had gone out there Olivia had found herself fantasizing more and more about ‘accidently’ shooting the man.

"I'll just be glad when this is over." Glancing around to see that no one was really paying attention she moved her hand to lay casually on her other arm, but her fingertips brushed against the blonde's thigh. She knew they were sitting closer then would probably be appropriate, but Olivia didn't care. She had been working nonstop since she'd gotten this case and had begun to feel cold inside with each hour that it was left open. Her mind kept replaying the image of the tattered body parts stuffed in the bag and the smell of the bloody corpse was stuck in her nose. The touch and feel of the blonde so close was warming her, breaking the icy armor that she had begun to construct around her heart.

"Me too," Alex said softly, blue eyes gazing into brown. "I believe we still have a little chat that's long over due." A playful smile danced on full pink lips, raising an answering one on Olivia's face.

"And what would that be? I can't think of any other cases that we could need to talk about. Hmm?" Olivia made a show of trying to think deeply, but busted out into a wide smile when she received a nudge from the blonde.

"Very funny, Detective."

"Okay, we're good to go," Elliot said, breaking the two out of one another.

Olivia stood up, her detective mask slipping back over her face. She glanced at Alex and nodded. Leaning over as it to retrieve something from her desk, Olivia whispered into the woman's ear. "Thank you, Councilor." The interaction had been short, but very much needed. Now she felt better about continuing this.

"Any time, Detective." Alex whispered back, before watching the two Detectives stride out and to the elevators.
