Graphics making help?

Jul 17, 2010 12:37

So I just joined Team DharmaDays at lostland and I feel like this is the motivation I need to finally learn how to make graphics. I'll learn in anything, Paint, a website, anything...I would just love to be able to do this, and then hopefully graduate to bigger and better programs. If anyone can teach me I would be SO appreciative :)

I'm not the most stellar graphics maker in the world, but I do know how to use a few programs -- if you want some help, just let me know :D

I'd love any help you can give me! The only problem is I can't afford to buy any programs right now, so I'd love to learn something free and easy to start.

Photoshop is my drug of choice, definitely, and it's been a while since I've used anything else; but I've heard really wonderful things about GIMP as a relatively comparable free download, and the interface looks similar enough that it might be worth a try :)

I run Macs, though, so if you don't, hopefully the other OS versions are similar :\

ETA: Also, there are useful free trials of most Adobe products via their website; here's Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop Elements 8, if you're interested.

Awesome thanks so much! I figure I'll start out basic and if I ever actually get good at it, I'll upgrade from there.

I have a PC, so I might have to fiddle around.

Thanks again!

This is what made me purchase Photoshop. These land comms are wonderful. I started out with picnik.com. Not the greatest place in the world but it gets the job done and it's free. You can add text in Paint on those finished products.

As far as teaching, I am still learning Photoshop but it's fun.

Your icon. ♥ The movie just ended. Now it's a bunch of Sandra Bullock movies that I haven't seen. I think I'll leave it here and watch them.

Picnik I have heard of-that seems like a good place to start.

And Dirty Dancing is my favorite movie of all-time <3

I like picnik too, and also phixr.com . Both really easy to use. Instead of the paint that comes with your computer, we also use paint.net , which is especially good for resizing, and being able to change anything you can copy, PDFs, into JPEGs.

I was lucky and found Paintshop Pro 8 on sale for $20 way back when, so it's been my go-to program for graphics for many years now. I've heard good things about GIMP, however, though I've never tried it myself yet ( ... )

Ais you are AMAZING thank you so so much!!! Also I wrote your drabble while babysitting tonight, and will type it up and post it after I get back from breakfast with my parents-I'm too exhausted to do it now lol.
