Captain America/The Avengers: Steve/Bucky: Cold Ice, Warm Heart (Happy Birthday siehn!)

For siehn for her birthday-she wanted something Bucky-centered-Happy Birthday hon!! You are such an amazing friend <33

(I haven't written anything in quite a while, so I hope this is okay...This is an AU, where Bucky never fell from the train. Instead, he was in the plane with Steve when it crashed in the ice, and they were revived together.)

This time it's Bucky who wakes up screaming, calling Steve's name over and over. They trade nights of nightmares, the only difference which one is dead in the plane, which one is buried irretrievable in the ice. Bucky's seeing Steve's dead face, pressed against the plane window, blue and cold and motionless, seeing that over and over until Steve succeeds in waking him, arms wrapping around Bucky's shaking body tight enough to quiet the tremors, to shut out the ice.

"I'm here, Bucky, you're here, we're okay," Steve murmurs, wrapping Bucky in a down comforter they could never have afforded before the war, the serum, the ice, the Avengers. Bucky's still getting used to being part of a team bigger than a team of two, but having Steve there, confused and elated and loved and learning right beside him, it's more than he could ever have dreamed of. It's what he chooses to dream of, instead of those nightmares.

Bucky turns his head, kisses Steve, deep and slow. They have all the time in the world now.
