I just finished watching it. And it's always funny what fandom osmosis makes me think of a show and how that is sometimes totally wrong.
1. I thought this show was about Richard, Kahlan, and Cara. Cara actually only shows up later. It is about Richard, Kahlan, and Zedd... the old wizard dude no one in fandom ever mentioned. Who knew! (BTW, Kahlan is pronounced with a long A in the first syllable because some guy thought ah means A and ay means I. Whatev fantasy authors.)
2. I hadn't realized that Richard and Kahlan had an OTP Epic Love full of Obstacles because they Must Never Have Sex Ever or Terrible Things Will Happen. Yet they kiss way more than any other pair who Must Never Have Sex Ever.
3. Also somehow fandom made me think the show had an almost textual threesome? Because somehow I got the impression that Kahlan/Cara was also canon? Because I thought they used to know each other and were together before Cara became a Mord'Sith? These things are not true. Le sigh. Who knew! I was a bit disappointed. (Though I liked the characters and their relationships anyway. But still.)
4. There was a vid I'd seen, Doll Parts, which I think I got from
strangefandom. I believed it was about Cara. But no. Instead it is about a minor character, Denna, who is introduced earlier, and who is not Cara. She is also not Kahlan's sister Dennee. Do not be confused by similar names or long blonde hair. (I totally stopped trying to understand the naming scheme early on. Like why Jennsen is a girl whose name means son of Jenn. (Also she should have showed up more.))
5. I always do prefer hinky human evil overlords to when people fight the devil. Darken Rahl was a good bad guy. Plus in the first episode I started to wonder if he was secretly Richard's father, so I'm giving myself points for that anyway.
Overall it was fun. Just not what I expected.
