I have babbled to my new housemates about this already, because now they have the misfortune of being around me a lot, but I have just recently learned about the whole Adam Lambert and Tommy Joe R- uh, no, actually, he might google himself or something. And I've kinda fallen for him because he is clearly having the time of his life being a ROCKSTAR and MAKING OUT ON STAGE with his HOT NEW BFF and has constant \o/ about it. You know, as straight boys do. And how can one blame him, being a rockstar is awesome.
Now I've been being very passive about fannish interests lately, and I mainly only read/watch things that float across my screen on their own, because whenever I go looking for stuff it's always the stuff no one makes. And I have to treat celebrities with a layer of fictionalization anyway in order to distance myself enough to be entertained by them. (Because caring about them? That way lies madness.) So while I state my opinion and conjecture herein, it is an opinion and conjecture based on almost no facts at all. (AKA... Point: I have not heard Adam Lambert's album yet. Point: I don't even know what Tommy's voice sounds like. Point: I don't know where he's from or how old he is. (He has no IMDB or Wikipedia entries? And see above re: fictionalization and thus why I don't want to read his Twitter or anything.))
But my opinion is that the guy's a goth. And this has been totally left out of the handful of fics I've read. Which obviously are a representative sample of the fandom, ha ha ha. Note that they are probably not.
Laying aside the times when he's wearing professional costumes, his personal style seems like an adorable mix of old skool eighties goth and contemporary aughties stuff (though I guess we're actually no longer in the aughties, right?). And seriously, he went on a vacation and was on a boat in the hot sun surrounded by people in shorts and tank tops... and himself in long black jeans and a black hoodie. I was like, oh honey, oh HONEY, is the sun your ENEMY?
And I was watching an interview with him but I was at work so I couldn't listen to it (see note above re: never having heard his voice, this is how I watch most things these days, and mostly it gets me enough content to be fine, but I guess I wouldn't mind if more people on YouTube used captions/subtitles) so I was watching his hands a lot, and his wrist gestures, oh! I guess lots of people would think they were flaming, but no, they seemed very classic androgynous goth aesthete to me. Which is not the same, and wouldn't get any accusations of false advertising from queer boys at a goth club.
But whatever, he's from the same country as me and probably not more than five years away from my age, so suffice to say, if I am right and he has been hanging out in the goth scene? Do you know how very normative bisexuality is in many/most goth places? And how everyone is familiar with both polyamory and BDSM even if they don't do either themselves? And how people dress up? (Sweeping generalizations, I said.)
So this is the part where if I weren't a Quaker, I'd probably bet cash money that a) he's worn makeup before and b) he's kissed a guy before. I don't think I'm going out on a very long limb here.
So when I read fic where it's all "*angst*, omg, I'm attracted to a man!" I go lol whut and when it's all "makeup is such a strange new experience!" I go lol whut, and the one where it was all "Adam, you're taking me to a graveyard, how weird!" I was all lol whut. (Note that I do not personally like hanging out in graveyards and if you ever saw me in one trying to avoid stepping on any graves you would laugh and laugh and this is one of the many reasons why I will never be a professional archaeologist.)
Now watch someone come along and tell me I'm wrong, he was a total prep until last year...
Regardless, internet, keep posting gifs and write more fic that is angst-free and involves friends who make out with each other.
EDIT: Hosheet, he's exactly two years, two weeks, and one day younger than me. He's a fellow libra! Now I'll just do my libra attachment and projection thing and assume he is even cooler and I know all about how his mind works. Blah blah blah.
(Also, do I need to meddle with my DW settings? Why is the crossposter heading not actually linking to my crossposts?)
