Dear Yuletide Author and Yulegoat

Dec 25, 2009 13:06

By writing me anything at all, you are indeed teh GOAT (greatest of all time).

General info: I'm in a bit of a bad place right now, personally, and so would much appreciate a focus on happy things in fic. This doesn't necessarily mean pure unadulterated fluffy schmoop, but happy endings, please. And an avoidance of breakups, cheating, angsty unrequited love, lost friends, death, the meaninglessness of life, torture, non-con, stuff like that. One of my requests is for villains, but if you've seen that movie, you know it's cheesy and candy-coated even when evil. And another has a character who is canonically dead, so if you pick that one, I'd appreciate stopping the backstory before canon starts. I like character- and relationship-based fiction, and am fine with either vignettes or plotty stuff. I enjoy dorky humor. I like cute and silly (as you might tell from the fandom list here). I really like unconventional forms of romance, characters who don't follow a social script but instead find what makes them really happy as unique people and in unique relationships. I don't think everyone needs monogamy and marriage and babies and white picket fences and chocolate and heart-shaped valentines to be happy.

Fandom: Bring It On
Characters: Torrance and Isis
What you need to read/watch: one movie: Bring It On
What I like and want: What I like about this movie is the totally archetypal plot of the Brave Leader, the Loyal Second, and the Noble Antagonist - but instead of being kings and warriors, they are teenage girls and cheerleaders. I especially like the interaction between Torrance and Isis. Just like in a bronze age epic, it's not hero versus villain, it's two brave and noble leaders who are in competition, but who respect and understand each other. They need each other to be their best, because beating a strong opponent is more glorious than beating a weak opponent. Going up against a villain brings no glory, instead glory is only found when heroes face each other. ...And then while the fandom understandably has a bunch of Torrance/Missy, there is a shocking lack of Torrance/Isis. So what happens to these two girls next? I want to see them run into each other again, maybe with more competition, maybe with them ending up on the same team. And the connection and understanding and respect between them grows, and they become real friends. And if you want, because I would want, more than friends. Things I would ask you to avoid are bad relations between Torrance and Missy and Cliff.

Fandom: Hoot
Characters: Roy and Mullet Fingers
What you need to read/watch: one movie: Hoot
What I like and want: I just think this movie is absolutely adorable, and there should be more fic for it (though to be honest, this is also the only one of my prompts where I actually have read fic for it before; the others I have found neither hide nor hair of when I have searched for them). Cute little kids trying to make the world better! Boats! Beaches! Baby owls! I believe Roy and Mullet Fingers totally have crushes on each other, so I am all for slash here, but if you want to write them as friends instead, that is a-okay. Friends are cute, too. Beatrice is also an awesome character so any appearances by her would be welcome. Things I would ask you to avoid here are explicit sex scenes and Beatrice in a romance with either of the boys.

Fandom: Inspector Alan Grant series
Characters: Bill Kenrick and Tad Cullen
What you need to read/watch: one book: The Singing Sands by Josephine Tey
What I like and want: This is the one thing where I think Yuletide is pretty much its only chance for ever getting written. Because hey, it's an old murder mystery, who writes fic for that? But seriously, even though their relationship is never shown in scene, it is so present in the story and so affecting, and I want to know more about it. They are totally OTP BFF, and if you just want to take it as BFF, I'm good with that, but if you want to take it as slashy, hells yeah. It could be an epic of the entire history of how they meet and get together, or a vignette of one afternoon, or anything. What I would ask you to avoid is death. Also, it seems pretty canon that they do date and probably sleep with women, so I guess I don't want that treated as totally fake and as beards, but I also don't want it treated as a source of cheating and jealousy and anger and angst. And while I am certainly not averse to threesomes and so on (rather the opposite of averse, in general terms), I would prefer emotional relationship focus on the named characters. Hey, look, it's a tightrope for you to walk, dear author! But don't fret too much, please. So long as the characters are happy with their lives, and you are enjoying writing, it ought to be fine.

Fandom: Sky High
Characters: Gwen and Penny
What you need to read/watch: one movie: Sky High
What I like and want: Hmmm, I notice a theme in my requests, which is silly teenage movies. Anyhow, I really enjoy the sly humor and parody in this film, and the way that there could always be so much more going on with everything in it. But you know what doesn't exist in the fandom? Hot evil femslash with Gwen/Penny/Penny(/Penny/Penny/Penny/...). So I continue in my quest to make it exist. If you aren't into that, feel free to write the other hijinks of them. I mean, seriously, they go to the bathroom together at school to do their makeup while plotting to conquer the world. There is planning Homecoming and getting dresses and so on... while trying to use the dance as a trap to kidnap everyone and conquer the world. So many amusing possibilities. Things I would ask you to avoid are DARK AND EVIL versions of evil.
