it all begins with a flare of light, intense hot white, slowly fading away into a spasm of pulsating colours at the edges
this refrain is picked up by a brisk breeze and the rich smell of fresh earth,
followed closely by the painting of the lapis lazuli sky and the emerald green of the tree overhead.
it is nice to feel the warmth on my face again, especially after all those days buried in the cold cold cubicle of the colder office block. As the moment passes, a memory lingering on the fringes of my mind begins to chillingly seep and creep into my veins. A memory of something seen and overheard that should not have been.
I recall that it has now been over 35 hours since i began running and dodging and running again. Finally finding this secluded grove nestled within a near forgotten reservoir before passing out. Punctuating the memory, the baying of hounds and men fill the air just beyond the edge of the grove.
Jumping off the branch, i begin running again, swift and silent over the undergrowth. Akin to shadow I meld and melt, flowing past the trees and further away from pursuit. Running towards an old friend who will embrace and shelter me , a craggy limestone quarry.
Free ....for now...
Almost, until I round the last tree and into the snarling, slavering yellow teeth of a man and the cold cruel eyes of the hound at the end of his leash...
