I just finished playing Persona 3 and I'm feeling so many emotions. I only started this game this year despite it releasing in 2006. I heard it's the best game in the persona series so I wanted to check it out. Persona 5 for me was a frustrating game because the story didn't make sense and felt way too long. Persona 4 was darker but the characters were more lovable. I didn't have too much expectations towards Persona 3 besides it's the same gameplay but battle mechanics are worse. I was so wrong.
Persona 3 exceeded my expectations, made me fall in love with the characters, and cry at the end. I'm not a very emotional person, and every time I hear the music I start crying. The story is well written, the characters feel like real people who have great character development, the pacing between gameplay and story is great, the music is amazing, the amount of detail they put into the atmosphere is subliminal.
I can't even explain why my heart hurts all the time. When I try to pinpoint what I love about the game, so many other things pop up that I also love.
The game I feel is as realistic as they could make it at the time. You can control your character in battle, but you can't control your teammates. You can tell them to focus on healing or fighting, etc, because when you're in a fight you can only tell them what strategy to do rather than controlling them. As a gamer, I understand the frustration of not having complete control over your game, but it did add to the realism of the story for me. I love the realism of the story. I love how things aren't always great and get resolved, things have consequences, and it lets the gamer know how serious the problems are.
I kinda feel biased because my favorite character ends up being the main love interest for the silent protagonist. Because she's my favorite, I empathize heavily with how much she loves the main character, and how much she wants to protect him. The song from her perspective hurts so much.
I'm getting kinda sleepy, so I'll try to continue this later, but I do hope the creators of the game know how much this game affected the people who played it.
