I'm enjoying your fic and definitely approved of Arizona's rant, which I can see her delivering, particularly following Callie's woe is me issue.
However, since everyone is analyzing the characters, which is something I love to overdo, I thought I'd share my two cents as well.
Yes, Arizona had a valid point in her rant -- Callie was definitely being a passive-aggressive bitch about Africa. But, the funamental thing that makes Callie more right than Arizona in this whole saga in my opinion is that Callie didn't appear to have much choice about Africa. She wanted Arizona, she had to take Africa.
I think, just like the baby thing, Arizona didn't attempt to budge. She got the grant, she was going to Africa for three years, end of discussion. I think it's the kids she's going for, not necessarily herself, (her streak of duty) but she was going and likely going to break up with Callie to do so because the length of time was simply too long. I don't think there's a lot of compromise or middle ground for Arizona. (Thus negating some of her end of season revelations)
And, at the end of day, aside from all of Callie's attitude, Arizona dumped her in the middle of the airport without an apartment, job and with all of her important stuff in Africa. That's not someone who's reasoned things out as she likes to do, but rather that's someone who panics in the moment and calls it wrong. (And in your version, avoiding Callie's phone calls is avoiding a discussion and a chance to move forward and find some middle ground that she doesn't believe exists.)
Finally, in an attempt to play devil's advocate, Arizona's desire not to tell Callie why she returned seems a bit off for the post baby Arizona, who seems to prefer the pink bubble to actual discussions and growth. Callie's been the one pushing those boundaries more recently. Are we sure that's the reason, or is that what she's telling herself in order to maintain a semblance of control? That's a pretty scary revelation Arizona had and I can't see her being too happy about needing someone else so completely, particularly someone like Callie -- who may be amazing, but isn't exactly an easy person to be madly in love with.
no sweat. Glad you are liking the fic and thanks for commenting. Yeah I think it is because it is such a touchy topic that everyone has such different views on how things should go down. I 100% dont think that things will go down like how I have written it, nor would I want it to. It just kinda came out.
I mostly agree with everything you just said. we are totes on the same page, no fear. I am unfortunately not as detached and unbiased as I would like to think I am, because I am a team Callie. This fic chapter was an AZ POV, though, so she is seeing things a little different to Callie, but maybe Callie will address those issues you mention in the next. :) It's nice to hear opinions though and it helps me to pick up points I may have missed about characters. Im still deciding about some, but I take it on board.
I'm actually team Arizona for the most part. She's one of my favorite characters on the whole show. (Arizona, Bailey and Cristina) I love how, unlike the other characters they've made perky, Arizona is able to balance the perk with this super tough side that is able to talk to burn victims and tell parents that it's time to let their children go, and out of all of our surgeons, she seems to be the only one who is able to tell when not to cut.
However, my interpretation of Arizona in her personal life is that she holds back a bit, but with Callie she simply can't help herself. Callie's like this alien invader who fascinates Arizona with her passion for everything and she can't resist being sucked into Callie's world.
The one thing I do hope we get to see on the show is Callie giving selflessly to Arizona in some fashion...for Arizona to be able to discover that she can lean on Callie.
