Went to my first ballroom competition yesterday, competed in Rumba, Cha-cha, Jive, Waltz and Foxtrot at Bronze level. Got 2nd in all my latin dances (but out of two couples so not really impressive), got some really helpful feedback from the judges, took 1st in waltz and foxtrot (out of lots of couples, so much more impressive)! Also saw some AMAZING performances, and got to social dance with an ex-champion. We did aerials. I think I love him.

On a more serious note, why is it that Europeans can't seem to accept that Americans might have valid and informed opinions about international politics? Just because our president is an idiot, that doesn't mean I am. And just because you're from Europe does not mean you know more about Chinese foreign policy than me. Because, oh right, I spent four years studying it. And have actually spent time in the country. And keep in touch with lots of people who are currently living there.

Also, just because I'm open-minded and well-informed and actually speak some other languages does not mean I am not a "real" American! While I appreciate the intent, that is not a compliment! There are lots of Americans who are likeable. I promise. I am so tired of hearing: "No really. Where were you born? America, sure, but where are your parents from?"
