Tokyo

Well I spent all day yesterday wandering around Tokyo, and while I did enjoy the city, I must say I like Shanghai better. The food is easier to find, the people are friendlier, the prices are CHEAPER, and most importantly, I can actually communicate.

That said, there are two things Tokyo has that beat Shanghai hands down. One is stray cats. That people feed. As in, give them food. In China, they make them into food. And no, that is not a stereotyping thing to say. There was a van arrested just a few weeks ago, full of cats, on its way to a restaurant. There is a woman who has dedicated her life to saving these cats, and there are hundreds of them in her apartments. It happens. The second?

Public bathrooms. FREE public bathrooms. Free public bathrooms WITH TOILET PAPER that are CLEANED REGULARLY. In every subway station, and scattered throughout the city. Between that, and the cheap and plentiful sushi, I am not nearly as upset about my ruined weekend plans as I should be.
