Haven't written in a while... guess since I'm getting a new gadget next week I might as well start writing this entry.
Since I was a kid my mum always wanted me to read, but it never worked as she wanted. Even tho when I was around 17 years old I got into fanfics lol also I had this literature teacher who was really cool and asked us to read some books, he let us choose one, but before he told us the plot of the books. One of them was about a homosexual guy who was sent to prison and met another guy there... luckily for me that was all I needed to know in order to choose the book lol.. after that I got into reading. I think most of it had to do with me being able to choose what to read and also finding what type of books I like the most. Then mum and my sister started to get me books, which made me love Ken Follet till this day. Now these past years (let's say since uni days) I've been reading non-stop and ppl tend to relate me w/ books (aside from other things lol) that is pretty good cuz ppl tend to believe I'm the ultimate smartypants... which is wrong cuz I mainly read for fun. In those years/days ofc I started w/ books in Spanish, then turned into English cuz that was my major and the fics I read actually helped me to build up (?) my vocabulary (that was the only reason I was damn good in all the lectures that were language related lol .. it was like I have no idea about ur grammar rules, but I know all the correct answers to ur exercises ;))
Even tho I don't work and I've gone back to school I've been trying to keep reading (that's why moving was kinda hard since I had to carry books) ofc the amount of books I've read last year is little, but that's better than nothing.
Aside from discovering my love for reading, I also develop a nice feeling for the books... those beautiful objects made of paper and nice covers, specially the hard ones <3.. I even love their scent.
The title of this entry isn't actually related to my love for books or reading.. it's more about how I read... normally I buy paper books cuz DUUUUHH there's no better way to enjoy a book. As I've already mentioned, last year I didn't read as much as I usually do.. but then again between classes and papers I couldn't find the time.. ofc due to my programm I did read other books and since I didn't want to buy those books (cuz most of them where in Spanish) I ended up reading e-books. Now there are a few questions I'm still asking myself: 1. Did I enjoy the experience? 2. Was it better than reading paper books? 3. Was it convinient? .. It's pointless to say (after declaring my love for books above) that the answer to all those questions is... NO. Reading file either from my iPad or MacBook wasn't that enjoyable, yet it was that or printing or buying.. so I did it and save a lot of money.
So now the biggest question would be: 'WHY AM I MOVING TO E-BOOKS?' (and what does that imply). Let's break down the reasons. First, I can't buy more books, besides from the money, it's mainly because of the space they take.. after this academic year, I don't know where I'll go and moving all those books would be a problem and a lot of extra bags. Second, after last year I learnt and spent a lot of time reading on my iPad and it's true what they say about the light, or more like the brightness of the device, it's kinda hard to read anytime, everywhere. Third, there are a lot of books I wanna read and the e-book market is quite cheaper than the paper one, besides u can also find some free e-books, most of them the classics which is what I want to read. Fourth, going back to the traveling part, I think in the long run it'd be really convinient to have a way to read as much as I like without the weight.
All in all.. what I try to say is that I'm not only quitting paper books, but also I'm acquiring a Kindle Paperwhite. That being said, it took me a lots of reviews to understand and be sure to get it before throwing my money at Amazon lol.. Ofc I think it's kinda pricey, but apparently it's worth it. Also, I know there are different brands for an e-reader, but honestly, Amazon has monopolized that industry and carries either more books or has the lowest prices in all the e-book market. Now, if anybody wonders how can I get such a thing when I'm not working.. the answer is simple I've saved some money for this kind of things, I actually wanted to get a new phone, but that's a no no since iPhones are not that cheap.. the same applies forany other Apple devices (expect the EarPods, which are the best thing ever created). Even tho a brand-new Kindle is around 129 euros (in the USA is wayyyy cheaper >_>>>>>), there are also refurbished ones and that's what I'm getting it's 30 dollars less and checking reviews all the refurbished Kindles work fineeeeeeeeee.
That being said, I'm looking forward to getting my Kindle next week (hopefully I'll finish the book I'm currently reading) and starting this new experience before I start classes. Also I hope I can use it for academical purposes lol
