Some sort of plague has taken up residence in my sinuses. Not the deadly sort, just the kind that makes you sound funny, gives you a constant throbby headache, and makes your ears feel odd.
I would like to stay home from work, which is something I rarely do. Unfortunately, that's not possible at the moment, as we are already operating short-staffed, down one phlebotomist. (Why doesn't Firefox recognize that? It's a word!) I was discussing it with my head nurse (S) at my annual review yesterday (I have officially worked at the hospital one year Tuesday, plus 3 months temping!), and we realized other than S and myself, there's not a soul in the building trained to work my desk. Which means I can't call in sick while we're short staffed, because that leaves no one. S thought it would be great fun for both of us to call in, set up a CC TV, and watch the chaos unfold. I thought probably Dr. Gottasavetheworld would either implode or give both of us the "you all need to help me" speech. Again. I swear. If I had a dollar for every time she and I have heard that one, we'd have both retired by now.
I hope to feel better tomorrow and have expelled the plague, because tomorrow evening is our office Christmas party. Which should be fun. We've invited the satellite sites, and I have never met most of them face to face, so it should be quite the shindig. M hopes dearly that the office coordinator from S'field (A) comes, because she thinks he and I should run away together forever, despite the fact that 1) she apparently thinks he's gay except un-gay for me, and 2) I know for a fact he is married and has a baby. Also, I would never want to run away with someone who does the precise job I do, because what on earth would we talk about all day? Chemotherapy? The time that man had a BM in their waiting room? The rider we'd like to write for Friday morning Tumor Board?
(We did write one once. I should see if I can find it. A is a pretty funny guy, for someone I've never met.)
Oh! Tomorrow is Tumor Board. Free food thrills me so.
I heart my new icon.
