Serious stuff

I think it is relatively important that I take a moment to point out that if you are preparing for the zombpocolypse by reading Max Brook's Zombie Survival Guide, you are likely going to falter and succumb to the shambling hordes of living dead. This book, while an excellent attempt at preparing the masses, unfortunately is filled with misconceptions and poorly thought out advice.

The most important thing to keep in mind is the motto every boy scout must learn, "Be Prepared". Take a moment and look at the area in which you live, plot out not one, but multiple plans of escape. These plans should include ways to move around with minimum exposure, the safest and most direct routes to supply caches, and prime locations to fortify and hide. I cannot stress enough that guns are not your friend when the big day comes. They are great for a while, but ammunition only lasts for so long after which reliance on this form of defense becomes a liability, not to mention zombies are attracted to loud noises. Don't be afraid to stockpile supplies such as canned goods, fuel, and other sundries (Toilet paper anyone?) in multiple locations along your pre-planned travel routes, and be prepared to stay on the move a bit...as any homeless person will tell you, the longer you stay in one place, the more likely you are to end up in trouble.

Prepare yourself for the long term, the greatest weapon you have in the war against undeath is time! Educate yourself on the various stages of decomposition, keeping in mind the process is greatly slowed by the fact the roving dead will be able to avoid being munched on by the usual critters accredited with aiding the organic breakdown of the body. This process may in theory also be slowed by the zombification process as well.

If you must travel with company, be sure it is with people you can trust and are willing to trade slugs with in a worst case scenario such as one of you getting bitten. Traditionally in simulations, the main cause of failure is the people you are with not pulling their weight and not being prepared...you shouldn't have to carry anyone through this, which is why we all need to spread the word and teach these basic principals in advance to people you feel will be beneficial to the human race once the infection settles down and life begins to return to normal.

I hope this helps some of you, good luck out there!
