Yeah. There's a part of me that doesn't really care about any silly career, but I feel driven to it anyway, and I've never been able to completely separate how much of it is my own desire to accumulate more stuff, how much is what family/friends/society expect I should accomplish with my life, and how much of it is a sense of personal responsibility, so that I don't have to be bailed out in emergencies, noone has to take care of me when I'm old, etc.
And I've got nothing against a decent career, there just don't seem to be any open to me that don't involve cleaning out a fryer once a week. And those jobs are pure misery.
I don't have complete freedom. I still have debt, for starters, and a sense of responsibility attached to it. And a cat that noone everyone either can't or won't catsit for me. Those three things probably keep me from doing something crazy like saying, "Hey, think I'll go to ((insert city of the month here)) and live in my car for two or three months, see if I can make a better living there.
I haven't decided if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
