Thelma Marie Davis, 86, now at peace and reunited with her loving husband on their 62nd wedding anniversary on March 8, 2009. She passed away in her Lucas home surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
Thelma was born on September 6, 1922 in Wellsburg, West Virginia to William and Verna (Robinson) Reinbeau. She graduated from Newark High School in 1942. Following graduation Thelma worked for the former Heisey Glass Company in Newark.
On March 8, 1947 she married Robert J. Davis and together they lived and raised their family in Lucas. Thelma then worked at Westinghouse for 25 years.
In her spare time she enjoyed quilting and sewing. She also loved spending time outdoors, especially tending to her garden. She grew both flowers and vegetables including tomatoes, corn and numerous other produce. Self sufficient, her bounty was often canned and used throughout the year. Along with her garden, Thelma also enjoyed spending time cooking for the family. Her homemade recipes of potato salad, mustard relish, noodles and pies simply could not be duplicated.
She was a faithful Christian, and member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lucas for 55 years.
Thelma found value in friendships. She delighted in keeping in contact with numerous friends, even those who moved. She will be remembered for her love of family and genuine love and acceptance of everyone.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Thomas and Graciela Davis of Irving, Texas and James and Vicki Davis of Copley; her daughter and son-in-law Marie Davis and Joseph Marsano of Lucas; step son and daughter-in-law Robert J. Jr., and Janice Davis of Worthington, and step daughter and son-in-law Diana and Robert (Rock) Lantz of Westerville; 20 grandchildren and their spouses Kathryn and Robert Zeid, Darla and Brian Kaufman, Lori Smith, Kelly and Rob Abbott, Stacy Lantz and Jay Adkins, Damyan Davis, Heidi Davis and Chris Wade, Michelle and Andy Price, Heather Smith, Sarah Davis, Maggie Davis, and Andrea Davis and the Marsano boys David, Chris, Bobby, Jason, Josh, John, Cortez, and James; 18 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Billy and Ruth Reinbeau of Newark and Lloyd and Fleda Reinbeau of Mt. Vernon; numerous nieces nephews and extended family; as well as special friends and neighbors Audrey, Sara, and Gary.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Davis Sr., who passed away on May 18, 2004; two grandsons John Michael Davis and Mark Allen Davis; sister Verna (Sis) Ramsey, brothers Merel (Bud) Reinbeau and Wallace Reinbeau, and her stepfather Jacob Buchanan.
The Davis family will receive friends on Thursday, March 12, 2009 from 5-8p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Visitation will continue on Friday morning from10-12p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service celebrating the life of Thelma Marie Davis will follow at noon. The Rev. Ron Daley will officiate. Interment will be held on Saturday March 14, 2009 at 10a.m. in Mansfield Memorial Park.
