Ah, gaming...

So I got talked into getting "A Kingdom for Keflings" for the 360. Really, really silly and addictive game. For those that aren't big on the "blow stuff up and pray that you live" games, I recommend this game. The only violence in the game (sadly) is the option to kick the keflings around which is fun, if a bit non-productive.

I've spent the last couple days dinking with this stupid game and it's disgustingly cute.

And now... Well, I've got a legendary ODST campaign to finish.

There are folks that do not like the Halo games. I suppose I can understand that - many folks just don't like console gaming, and that's certainly their prerogative although I've yet to truly understand the whole "console games suck" thing. I own all three next-gen consoles as well as a rather large collection of vintage consoles (courtesy of Megan) and although many of the games are not as rich as the PC games, I really can't say that either PC or Console games are better - it really depends on the game in question. Without a doubt, there are some things that simply can't be done well on a console that work well on a PC - but that's not to say that the PC is better. For example, RTS on a console is a bit of a stretch, although they're getting closer to getting it right I have to admit - Halo Wars did not entirely suck as an example.

I'm in a Halo kind of place at the moment, so I suppose I'll just babble on that topic for a bit.

There are a lot of folks that really hate ODST. I cannot for the life of me understand why - unless they hate a challenge. It is admittedly a bit of a departure from Halo 1-3 where you play a Spartan II with armor that makes main battle tanks envious - this is not a game for wading into the fray and shooting your way through mobs of dudes - you actually have to be tactical and think about what you're doing because you're really, really squishy this time around. I know this because I've been squished hard every 15 minutes or so trying to get through the legendary campaign. The game is rather unforgiving - and I like that. Halo 1 and 2 were great games, 3 was a bit lackluster but still worth playing, but ODST - there's something about not being a spartan that makes me giggle. Then again, I've always considered dying a fine art. :)

I am particularly happy that hunters are not wussy little pushovers like they are when you're playing good old S-117 - in point of fact, I cringe every time I have to fight the bastards on legendary. There is a certain epicness to finally walking away from a pair of hunter corpses that just feels good. When you're a spartan, it's far too easy to just smile and nod and circle-strafe and eat the occasional melee blow. Getting swatted across the screen from a glancing blow tends to keep you on your toes a bit.

At any rate, I'll likely be doing a little halo pvp tomorrow, since they're doing the Haitian relief thingy. Gotta swap out my icon to the red heart so I get counted for the relief drive chingus. If nothing else I'll be getting spattered for a good cause.

Details on the relief drive thingy are here:

If you've got Halo 3 and/or ODST, why not get spattered (virtually) for a good cause?
