I'm bacckkkk! Miss me? ;) Heh and I'm back with 2 entries tonight :P
Thanks to everyone who left a note in my "goodbye" entry :) I missed you all to *hug*
So my holiday was pretty good...it was nice to get away but I'm glad I'm back.
I left on Sat 18/11 and I was kinda sick when I left. The day before I came home from work feeling kinda achy, kinda like fluish...so I took some meds and had a nap but then had to go to my sisters graduation that night. I was fine then ended up feeling a bit achy again so I left early and was ordered by my mum to go straight to bed and not pack *pout*. So the next morning I got up early, packed all my crap and off I went to the airport. Mum and Jess (my sis) dropped me off and Mum was all paranoid wanting to make sure I checked in ok. I felt kinda dorky, it's like gesh Mum, I think I can hand over my passport to the lady! But yeah...when Mum and Jess left I kinda felt...alone. I dunno it was weird, I thought I'd be fine but when they left it kinda all suddenly hit me that I'd be travelling alone *eek*. So I called some friends while waiting around for my flight so I at least had someone to talk to *goof*.
Hong Kong
I flew to Sydney then onto Hong Kong. On the way over I had a window seat but I was stuck next to this old Asian guy who like kept hogging the arm rest! And he also made me get my dinner really late. They only had the pasta left but he didn't want it and they were going to see if they had something else. They asked me if I wanted it and I said it was fine but I dunno if she didn't hear me or whatever or thought I didn't want it as well but she didn't give it to me. Then they never brought anything and the guy started complaining to me but I was busy watching the movie so I was always like, "Huh? (take off headphones) Oh yeah...ok...(put back on headphones)" So when they came to collect the trays he kicked up a big fuss and they kept appologising and calling me "maam"...now that is weird! I was like, nah it's ok (I wasn't hungry and plane food sucks) but they kept appologising to him and said that they'd serve us our "supper" first. So I guess a little good did come out of it. :)
When I got to Hong Kong I was supposed to meet Dad at this Mc Donalds but from what he told me I thought it was outside the airport...so after wandering around for 20 mins...starting to get a bit panicky I kinda went a little bit further one way and kinda stumbled across the Mc Donalds...it was actually in the airport *goof*. Dad and I then caught the train into the city center where we caught a taxi to his friends house (who we were staying with for the few days). I hate staying in people's houses you don't really know...like my Dad knows them pretty well (how, I dunno) but I think I've met them once? *shrug* And worse still, their daughter had to give up her room for me. I felt so bad!
Hong Kong is nice, but so busy! Just crossing the road is dangerous! Like there are so many people crossing the road at once that they have to make their crossings so wide! Like imagine a normal zebra crossing here, and multiply that by like 4 and thats how wide their crossings are! And their taxi's are crazy! You see people crossing when the little man is Red and taxi's don't slow down they just honk as if to say, "if you don't move I'm going to hit you!". I definately only crossed when the little man was Green *nod*.
Some side street of HK and their packed trains!
I bought a new Digital Camera while I was in Hong Kong. It took me forever to decide on which one but I eventually settled on this Panasonic Lumix one and Dad suggested I get a 1gb memory card. It's nice and fits into my pocket nicely :) But now I owe Dad $450 :( I'm going to pay it off in installments of probably $100 per month but like after a few months Dad kinda cancels my debt...all I have to do is do one good thin and he says it's ok heh :D He did that with my iPod so I'm hoping he's going to be the same here.
Just did a bit of sight-seeing in Hong Kong and a bit of shopping. One night we went to the markets...that was kinda scary. Nothing has prices so you have to ask, and once you ask its like you're locked in and feel obligated to buy because they don't like to let you leave. Like I was thinking about buying a handbag for my sister and I asked the price and the lady asked me which one I liked and had to get it down for me and all this kinda stuff...and I'm like no don't bring it down, I'm just curious...and she kept trying to get me to buy and everytime I said no thanks she'd be like, "tell me how much you want pay?" I'm like nooo it's ok thanks...trying to run off *eek*. I did buy a couple of watches (2 for AUD$10) but mine stopped working after like a few hours! I had to tap it to get it to work. It sucked. I gave my sister the other one and her's worked fine but she dropped it once I gave it to her and the back fell off, so now she has to superglue it back on *sigh*. The lady did try to get me to buy 5 for cheaper but I'm like no thanks, don't need 5...and esecially since it would've ended up being 5 non-working watches!
This is the night view of some harbour in HK...
I got a pair of basketball shorts there and I was going to buy a whole set for my Wed night basketball team so our uniforms would look better but they didn't have the sizes I needed :( I also got a Oakley hoody (which I made sure was spelt right!) and a Man Utd shirt (which came with shorts to lol). It was all fairly cheap, I think I got all of that for about AUD$70. :)
Next we were off to Singapore. Dad's flight was 2hrs before mine though so I had to hang around at the Hong Kong airport waiting for my flight. I think Dad got a bit paranoid that I couldn't check in right because he practically kept ringing to make sure I was ok until he had to get onto the plane. Flew to Hong Kong and met Dad and we went to our Hotel there.
Singapore
Singapore was nice. Kinda busy as well. It's a fine country...not fine as in nice, fine as in if you do certain things you will get a fine heh. I was tempted to get a t-shirt saying that ;) In Singapore I was pretty much given a map, shown how to use the train system and left to wander around by myself...Dad had business meetings there. It was pretty ok though, I kinda walked around did a bit of browsing except it was raining :( And because it's so humid there you end up feeling all sticky and yuck. I didn't buy too much in Singapore, actually I don't think I bought anything at all. I did find this internet cafe one day and hopped on the internet for a little bit to check emails and the like, and they had AIM on there. So I logged on for a bit but forgot to log out, as Holden has informed me. She had a little chat with someone from Singapore where I'd left my AIM signed in LOL! Heh, sorry Holden!
Little side note, I did see this funny poster in Singapore, it said, "World Cyber Games - Singapore". What I want to know is, if it's "Cyber Games" why do they need to have a location? Isn't the point of "Cyber Games" in that everyone can play from home? *look*
The first night we were there Dad and I went out for a wander around the city to get some dinner and take a look. We ate so much that night that my Dad couldn't move when we got back LOL! We started with this thing called "long-yook" which is basically like mince meat flattened and bbqed. It's pretty nice. Then we had some roasted cheast nuts and then Dad suggested we go to this curry place which is famous there. It's called "The Banana Leaf" and you basically don't have a plate, just a banana leaf. It's pretty cool. You arrive and they place a banana leaf infront of you and then once you order the curry or whatever they bring round some rice and just dump it on the leaf. They give you a fork and spoon but everyone eats with their hands (which is how most Indian's and Muslim's eat). So like you can't go there and use a fork and spoon so I ate with my fingers lol. It's kinda fun, and hey, the way I think of it, how many times can you eat with your fingers and not get into trouble for it? Apparently there's a technique, you kinda mold it into a ball and then put it in your mouth but I didn't know that and kinda just picked it up and tried to eat it lol.
Heh, here's Dad eating with his fingers...
After that we went for a walk in this market and bought my sister some fake label t-shirts and skirts and stuff. I also bought this Green Day concert t-shirt. It looks like the ones you get at the concert but I'm not quite sure *look*. So Holden, don't laugh at my t-shirt when I see you! :P We also saw this person being attended to by the paramedics. She had like this bit of paper stuck to her head lol. I think she slipped and hit her head or something *shrug* but I wonder who's idea it was to stick paper there? Never heard of a tissue? *look*. But our eating hadn't stopped. Dad wanted to eat some Duran which is this Asian fruit. It smells really strong and I suppose it's an aquired taste *look*. I was so stuffed I only ate a bit, but the price was like 3 for SG$20 and we had to get one packed away. But you can't bring them into the Hotel (because they smell so bad) so we gave it to our taxi driver lol.
This is what Duran looks like...and what it looks like inside...
The next day in Singapore I practically stayed in the Hotel room. It was rainy again and I'd seen all the shopping strips the day before, plus we were leaving that afternoon. We caught a bus from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It was a nice double decker bus but up top where the seats were was really like sway-y. And I sometimes get motion sickness so I sat downstairs in the "lounge" the whole time. They did have a toilet on the bus which was for "light usage only" LOL! I had to pee really bad so I did use it but OMG, going to the toilet in a space which is only big enough for the toilet and your feet is hard! Like you go in forwards but it's like impossible to turn around. I just managed...lucky I didn't have to open the door and go in backwards! LOL. Then I couldn't find the flush (I did eventually, it was at my feet) and the bus stopped and I hit my head on the wall and yeah...never again.
Malaysia
My Aunt, Uncle (plus his wife and my 2 little cousins) came to pick us up from the bus stop. I had 6 days, 6 nights in KL and it was ok, kinda got bored after awhile. There wasn't much to do there. My main purpose was to see my relies and maybe do a little shopping. Weather was pretty sucky there though. Hot, humid and sticky (to be expected) but rainy at the same time *sigh*.
My cousins are so grown up now! They're now 4 and 5 and I think the last time I saw them they were like 1 and 2 or something. The elder one, Edward can talk fully now...but he doesn't shut up! And he's like obsessed with Need for Speed. Why a 5 year old plays that game I don't know...anyways, so he made me play it with him and they have the steering wheel and everything and you need to like drop gears to slow down and stuff and it took me awhile to get the hang of it, but I think he got frustrated with me because he was telling me when to change gears! He's like, "Up down, up down!" I was getting driving advice from a 5 year old! *eek* But he also walks around shopping centers making car noises *sigh* It was quite annoying after awhile. Simon is the younger one...and he doesn't talk. Apparently he can, he's just to lazy to. He like grunts, makes noises and points to ask for stuff. I had no idea what he was asking for most of the time. But he did like to say, "Chickennnn Lil'!" alot. And mumble the song from it. It was kinda cute.
This is the two of them when they decided not to fight but be cute instead. Edward is on the left, and Simon right.
In KL I bought a webcam which my Uncle has been nagging me to get because he "wants everyone to be connected". It kinda creeps me out so I have to keep it covered when it sits on my desk. No American Pie moments for me! LOL. I also bought some boardies (which turns out I bought the wrong size *pout*), a belt and some black, low cut Chucks. God I went to so many stores just to get my size! No where had it! I would've given up but they were only $AUD30 which is cheap as! I also bought my sister some more stuff. I think it was guilt that I was overseas and she wasn't that made me buy her so much stuff *sigh*.
One day my Aunt and I took a drive down to Ipoh which is about 1 1/2 hrs from KL. It's kinda like a Geelong. There we visited a temple where my Grandparent's ashes lie. My Aunt wanted me to see exactly where it was (now that I'm older and can apparently remember) so that next time I'm in Malaysia by myself I can go. Mum found out we were going down there and got us to buy her these Chinese biscuits. God that was an adventure. We got to the shop and there was a que, which the shop lady said was odd. But yeah, we had to que up for over 1/2 and hour and I stood there by myself while my Aunt waited in the car (she had to keep the a/c going because we had some take away food for my Uncle and family back in KL). It was a little weird because here I was surounded by 15-20, middle aged to old, Asian women all speaking Cantonese. I can understand it but it was a little odd. While in line these 2 ladies got another lady in front to get them their biscuits, and then once they left the lady behind them started complaing to the shop keeper that it wasn't fair, she should've stopped them, blah blah blah. The lady was like, how was I to know? Then that lady left and the shop keeper started ranting to the other customers saying, she shouldn't have yelled at her, how was she supposed to know and stuff. Which I agree, but it's funny to see the agressiveness in their words and vocal tones and how worked up they get about it lol. So I finally got the biscuits and we're on our way home when I realise that they aren't air-sealed so I can bring them back to Australia. We turn around and this time I let my Aunt go in to explain everything and when she gets in there the lady told her off because we didn't say we wanted the sealed ones which were already there and we didn't have to wait for the fresh ones *sigh*. So it was a wait for nothing. Mum better apreaciate her biscuits! One thing I did learn though, is I hope to hell I don't end up like those women...just in their mannerisms and stuff like that *eek*.
One of the nights I went to a wedding dinner. It was for a cousin of my mum's who I don't think I've met, ever. But like there were a whole lot of relies there who I didn't know and as I was introduced to them all they were all either like, "So tall one? (that's how they say it in their accents)"...I'm not tall, but I'm tall for an Asians lol or "How your mother? When she coming back?" Which resulted in the response, "Fine. I'm not sure?" even though I know she's coming back next year. If I said that they'd make her meet up with them and she's only there for 3 days for another wedding. It was kinda fun, even though I didn't know anyone.
One of the day's I had a full body massage. My Aunt was getting one so I had nothing better to do and had one as well. It was like AUD$10 for 1 1/2 hrs! *eek* My back felt bruised the next day lol. For such a small lady, she was really strong! I also went up the KL Tower, which is the 4th tallest building in the world. It's odd because no matter how many times I've been to KL, I've never once gone up there. Except it was rainy when I went up there, so although the view was nice my pictures didn't turn out the best.
View of KL's "Twin Towers" from the KL Tower...
My Aunt (who lives in Aus) Godparent's came with us and then they insisted on buying us lunch and when we dropped them home they gave me RM$200 (about AUD$70). I felt so bad, like I hadn't talked to them much (because they don't speak much English and I don't speak any Cantonese) and during the car ride I fell asleep both times. I tried to give it back but they pushed me back into the car and told me to take it. There's like this line where you know they're going to make you take it but you have to refuse but only to a certain point where they get offended because you don't want their money. Chinese culture is weird like that. So yeah, I felt so bad about it but I ended up using it to buy my sister a skirt and my shoes.
That's pretty much all that happened in KL. The trip home was like hell. I was either on a plane or in an airport for like 15hrs! I was so buggered by the time I got home. I flew from KL to Singapore, Singapore to Sydney, Sydney to Melbourne *sigh*. I bought some alcohol in KL airport (duty free is soo much cheaper!) and some chocolates for my Aunt back home and my sister. I had to carry that with me the whole trip back, it was so heavy! I also got Mum some of these flavoured macadamias she likes from Sydney. However I couldn't find the Krispy Kreme stall at the Airport because I was supposed to bring some back for some friends :(
When I got home my whole family was there to pick me up. Apparently Mum missed me because I was told that by my Aunt (from Aus), my Dad and Mum told me that it was quiet in the house...which I'm not sure whether or not to be offended about because I don't think I make that much noise? Also one time while I was talking to her on the phone she was all sniffy, so I'm not sure if she was sick or getting kinda teary at hearing about what I'd been up to. I'd like to think she was sick, but people have said it was probabaly the later and then followed it with "aww thats cute" (yes Nat and Holden I'm looking at you!). It's not cute. *pout*
So that's all I have to say I think. Damm that was long. I did warn you though. Congratulations for making it this far. Here's a cookie *pets* And this has taken me alomst 1/2 an hour *eek*
