House headcanons!

Apr 17, 2014 23:40

Been posting on Tumblr really often these days, so my LJ is a little neglected! But since I mostly compulsively reblog stuff on Tumblr, I thought it'd be good to post something original on LJ for once. May cross-post to Tumblr if I feel like it later. Another reason I have for not posting on Tumblr straightaway is that this post is about my Hogwarts house headcanons for SnK characters, and my headcanon pretty much guarantees that I'd be accused of being biased to my own house. XD In the interest of full disclosure, my house is Hufflepuff (according to Pottermore) <3 I try not to put all the cool characters in my own house, really, I try... ( ; u ; ) And some of my headcanons can seem stereotypical, yes... The thing with house headcanons is that some people get really mad if someone else sorts a character "wrongly" in their opinion (this applies to me too). So I try not to take this too seriously too. It's a "headcanon", so it's just my opinion. :D

Eren | Gryffindor
Eren clearly looks up to courage and bravery, values held in high regard by the Gryffindor house. From early on in the series, he is seen aspiring to join the brave soldiers of the Survey Corps. To him, those who prefer to stay within the safety of the walls are like cattle waiting to die.

Mikasa | Hufflepuff
I can already hear the allegations of bias. XD Of course she'll put the badass ones into her own house! Right. Anyway, to Mikasa, nothing is more important than protecting her friends. Indeed loyalty is something she values. Of course, Mikasa is also brave, but bravery isn't something she looks upon with much favour. She pretty much disapproves of Eren joining the Survey Corps, and joins only so that she can keep him from dying an early death.

Armin | Ravenclaw
Armin is likely to be a hatstall, because he also has quite the affinity for Slytherin (he believes in utilitarianism) and Gryffindor (he looks up to people who are stronger and braver than him, like Eren and Mikasa). However I think he would ultimately be sorted into Ravenclaw, because one of his major motivations throughout the series is to see the world and know more about it. Ravenclaws value knowledge and discovery. He is also slowly becoming aware of his own intelligence and is gradually learning how to value and employ it (to terrifying effect). Even so, he isn't particularly ambitious, so although he comes close to being a Slytherin, he is not one.

Annie | Slytherin
I'm not putting her in Slytherin just because she's an antagonist, and anyway there are no "good" or "bad" guys in SnK, as Armin so wisely reminds us. Annie is determined and resourceful, and is willing to make heavy sacrifices to meet her goals, which is pretty much classic Slytherin. She was able to outwit Commander Erwin in the Forest of Giant Trees because she did not simply focus on making the best moves and dared to take huge risks. As a Slytherin, she is also self-serving, because she states that she has done all she did only so that she could protect herself, and not because she really wants to hurt people.

Reiner | Gryffindor
Reiner has a huge hero complex and wants to be everyone's big brother, so he's in Gryffindor. His very Gryffindor-like ambition in life is to be a brave and righteous soldier (which, unfortunately, he cannot be because of his circumstances).

Bertholdt | Hufflepuff
I don't know where to put poor baby Bert. He just seems scared and nervous the entire time, so it's hard to get an insight into his thoughts. The House system is such that those who have no affinity for any house are sorted into Hufflepuff, because Helga Hufflepuff did not believe in discrimination and accepted all that she could. So Hufflepuff it is.

Sasha | Gryffindor
Sasha is brave and daring. She's constantly on the lookout for the "prey" and will hunt it down no matter what. She's also the only non-Titan-shifter to have ever attempted to and succeeded in taking down a Titan without 3DMG, which shows that she has lots of guts and nerve, like most in Gryffindor.

Connie | Gryffindor
Connie, what are you?! We know that Connie likes to steal Jean's kills, so I guess he's pretty competitive.  He's also pretty brave to have chosen to join the Survey Corps. Above all he's emotionally very strong because his whole family got turned into Titans and killed, but he's still soldiering on. That doesn't mean that he should be in Gryffindor though. It's simply a gut feeling for this one.

Jean | Slytherin
Jean is undoubtedly ambitious and determined, like a good Slytherin would be. This is even after he abandoned his MP aspirations and joined the Survey Corps, because he is still seen questioning authority (he even says that Commander Erwin should be assassinated for embarking on such a harebrained scheme to capture the female Titan) and has great leadership skills.

Marco | Hufflepuff
Marco is like the male version of Helga Hufflepuff, I swear. Every freckle on him belongs in Hufflepuff. He's just so accepting and encouraging of people. I've seen people put him in Slytherin because of his leadership skills and his great ambition to join the Military Police, but I really don't see Marco as a Slytherin. He isn't into the whole MP thing because he is ambitious. He simply wants to serve the King. Rather than cunning like a Slytherin, he is pretty naive because he hasn't stopped to question the King's actions (although it can be seen from the gross inequality among the citizens and the little cruelties of their world that the King is really a huge douchebag).

Ymir | Slytherin
Ymir is a Slytherin because she is self-serving and cunning. She doesn't entertain any pretensions about being "good", and is very honest about being selfish and caring for herself above others (although she always puts Christa first). I think she demonstrates very well how Slytherins aren't necessarily evil or completely selfish, because she makes some pretty huge sacrifices for Reiner and Bert, at huge personal cost.

Historia | Hufflepuff
I'm not putting her in Hufflepuff because of the "goddess" thing. It's rather well-established that the "goddess" persona was a false one. Ultimately, Historia hasn't decided what kind of person she wants to be and how she wants to act yet, and is simply struggling to survive (emotionally) as of now. Like I said earlier, those with no affinity for any house go into Hufflepuff, so Hufflepuff it is.

Levi | Hufflepuff
SHE'S BIASED, I hear you whisper (or shout). I think Levi is a Hufflepuff mainly because he's extremely loyal to the Survey Corps and in particular, Erwin (awww <3). Initially, he joins the Survey Corps against his will, but remains there because he has decided to follow Erwin (omg these two). While Levi has a strong sense of self-preservation and is undoubtedly utilitarian, I don't think he would be in Slytherin because he is said to have great respect for authority and the rules (which Petra notes is rather unexpected). According to Salazar Slytherin himself, Slytherins tend to have a certain "disregard for the rules".

Erwin | Slytherin
This could not be more obvious. This man is practically the perfect Slytherin. He's cunning, resourceful, ambitious and determined, and also doesn't really give a damn about the rules (the Government is probably really fed up with him by now).  Much like the Slytherin house, he has a bad reputation and is often mistaken to be evil by others who don't know better (like Jean).

Hanji | Ravenclaw
She'd start out as a Gryffindor. Hanji herself notes that in the past, she was largely driven by anger (like Eren). However, she has evolved to become more like a Ravenclaw, after realising the importance of knowledge (when it comes to the Titans). She's always eager to learn more about the Titans and like many Ravenclaws, is seen to be eccentric and odd, almost bordering on loony.

Mike | Ravenclaw
We don't have very much info on his character. However he is known to be strange, what with the whole sniffing thing. My personal headcanon is that he likes psycho-analysing people based on scent and observing people. This is supported by the fact that he expresses frustration that Erwin has no scent (Commander has pretty badass scent-covering skills, either that or he's an alien). That puts him in Ravenclaw.
