The Bluest Eye

Research paper was pretty hard. I doubt I did well on it, but I really did try. I think that I did a bad job on citing though. Mine was about a book called The Bluest eye by Toni Morrison. Pecola's family begins to fall apart. Her father tries to burn down her house and her parents are constantly arguing. This, coupled with the constant bullying and teasing she gets at school, leads Pecola to start wishing she had blue eyes. Pecola believes that if she possessed blue eyes, her life would improve dramatically. Pecola is raped by her father while washing the dishes in the kitchen. He rapes her again when she is lying on the couch. She tries to tell her mother, but Pauline doesn't believe her. Pecola invents an imaginary friend to talk to her and affirm her. In a delusional state, Pecola believes her eyes have turned blue. She spends her days walking through town, picking through trash, and staring at her eyes in the mirror. This book really makes you think about racism back then and now.  It was way different there than now, now it is all races against each other but back then it was light skinned blacks against dark skinned blacks. I don’t get what there really was to fight about they were both hated by whites. There was definitely no need to for it. The light skinned blacks thought they were better than the darks because they were closer to white. It doesn’t matter what shade of black you are white people still hated you.
