Bokugoha - Review

Aug 14, 2017 23:06

Hi! It's been such a long time since I wrote a review here, but I wanted to write down my feelings regarding this movie 'cause I was waiting for it since I watched its trailer last year and I absolutely fell in love with it. So, let's get into this super cute Yuto's movie with lots of screencaps, like some sort of celebration for his birthday... which already passed... :D

OK, I don't even remember how I used to do this haha, so I'll just type down trying to keep a certain order but mostly this will be my rambling. Let's start, data from Asianwiki

About the movie

Well, this movie is based on a novel and it's not precisely a shoujo, which is nice. This is the story of a couple from the moment they start their relationship into a span of seven years. I think I liked the concept since the very beginning, I mean, once you see the trailer, you sort of have an idea about what happens at the end of the seven years, but I was so happy with its development and the ending, I mean, it's nothing new but at the same time is not what you would expect.

About the cast

The whole story is mainly supported by the two main characters, Yuto's character is called Hayama-kun and Araki Yuko (she's being around a lot lately, she was in Crisis last season and now in Code Blue 3)'s one is called Uemura. So, there are only a few side characters, but it's good 'cause their chemistry is great and they look so absolutely cute together <3. He is a very gloomy character because of his background story and she has a bright and blunt personality. So, it's nice to see them interacting because they are so different.

Sometimes their conversation is choppy and it takes a while until they feel completely comfortable with each other. But is so nice to watch the progression of their relationship that it becomes a nice ride.
I liked Yuto's character a lot, he was really good at it, but I usually enjoy his acting, so, there's nothing new there. About Yuko, she may not be the typical cute and tiny female protagonist, but she is so cute, she has such a nice figure that at times she looks like a model. I enjoyed a lot that she's not the typical female lead in terms of personality either, she's not obsessed of being the perfect housewife despite wanting to form a family.

I like their height also, they look good with each other. The situations they get to share don't make us lose the focus on both of them.

The other characters we get to see are Yuto's friends and Uemura's family. Later this another girl who was rather annoying but bearable.

About the plot

Well, I like the plot a lot. I mean, it's not the typical shoujo, there's no irrelevant angst here. She's bold and open about her liking him, and even though he's a lot less direct and a bit slow, he also gets a way to show that he liked her too. So, there's no time wasted in waiting to know the other's feelings. I liked the pace, the pace is nice, a bit faster during the first half.

We get to see how they become friends at high-school and later on, how their relationship is established during university and job hunting. She's really stubborn and very specific about her likes and dislikes which make so funny to watch him trying to get her and please her. He's most of the times contemplative, but you can see how she brights up his daily life.

The second half of the movie is a bit slower as Hayama-kun is lost about what's really going on with Uemura's life. And he starts to discover not only his own real feelings but how precious their relationship is for him.

Gloomy Nakajima

I think that I like the portrait of him, even though slowly he becomes more active on turning the events in his life into something he wants or wishes for; despite having a strong negative side.

Gloomy Nakajima is super handsome Nakajima

Yuto's character is quite different from the one he shows in HSJUMP and it was a nice variation to watch this quieter persona.

About the setting and visuals

I think this is what I love the most, there are a lot of different shooting locations and most of them are so beautiful and refreshing. Of course, there's this part of Yuto going to Thailand, which was out of nowhere, for me at least, but it's nice to watch it. Plus the scene just after he returns is so sweet, 'cause they are waiting for their turn at the fried chicken store and I liked so much the situation, as in, this scene could have happened while they were eating but to make this happen there was just so cute.

Nakajima in Thailand

Why in Thailand?

So, I enjoyed most of the locations a lot, like when both of them are talking to this plastic doll, I guess it was KFC guy... * maybe that was a shameful promotion, but since I don't have any of those stores in my hometown it just doesn't ring a bell for me, lol * And about the cameras, well, the angles weren't that impressive, but the background was always so bright and detailed that I didn't mind it at all. There are a couple of scenes in which you can feel the camera movements, I think they were trying to convey a certain emotion, but I usually dislike when I notice it, LOL.

Aw, I love this next place, the playground for kids, all the scenes there were so cute and important. Especially the last, which is also the first in the movie, and there we've got this camera spinning from above which was, probably the most touching part.

The places

About my final thoughts and the marks

Well, this is entirely a positive review, but take into account that I was extremely excited after watching the trailer, and that, sometimes, puts my hopes too high and then I get disappointed when actually watching the film. But, that was not the case here, at all. I enjoyed all the first part, especially the unspoken demonstrations of affection - I really liked that the movie doesn't waste any time in explaining things that can be easily inferred, there are no introductions, you just discover the details along with the characters. There's this occasional narration coming from Yuto, but only by the end.

Favourite scenes

I think the best part of this movie is the themes that it touches and the story that it tells. In my case, the point in which I fell even deeper for this was the moment when I got to understand the name of the movie, I'm always waiting for this moment for every movie and dorama and I loved it here. And you can skip the rest of this paragraph because it could be considered as a spoiler, but since it's my fave part I'll write it here, gomen, lol. The title's translation is something like I'll be waiting for tomorrow's meal and during the scene from the second pic just below, well Yuto's character explains that he eats a lot even at the worst moments because we never know if that would be our final meal. *I like his way of thinking! lol* So, the fact that he's able to wait, as in anticipate tomorrow's meal means a lot, means hope, means someone being able to actually make someone this negative to believe in a tomorrow ... it's so freaking cute!

So, that was it, the best part for me that I wasn't even anticipated. Nice.

Chemistry

And the last thing to mention is the song, it's called bokura no tame ni, I'll leave a link to a nice translation since I absolutely loved the song after watching the trailer, and searched for it once the album was out and listened to it. So, this whole thing started with this trailer, lol.

So, my overall opinion is that this is a super cute movie, with a nice pace and very significant themes. It may not be so appealing for some expecting more dramatic plots but this was just right for what I was expecting. The ending of the movie is super cute with this triangles. I haven't seen the making but they say both of the actors seemed to get along nicely, well, as shown in the movie, I guess.

So, to end, my grades, well, to me this is pretty close to a 4, maybe just slightly below, if you're looking for a cute romance that seems more than a bit more realistic than shoujo world, well this is definitely a nice choice.

And... you'll get cuteness overload.

So, that was it, a review! after so long! finally, this took me way too many days to finish typing, I had the idea in my head but it was hard. And now, I'll dedicate myself to do a bit of translation that I wanted to try after so long~~

So, I really enjoy watching this genre with any of my fave actors, so I'm really glad that they didn't disappoint me, after that promising trailer lol. In case you haven't noticed this, I put 24 screen captures *not the images from the net* because of his 24 years.

And omedetou to our cute sunshine in Arashi for his 21 years, I think it is, in the entertaining industry. I'm really glad that you decided to join in order to play with SMAP. The best for what is coming to the cutest model tennen~
