This is such an old review I have been making wait endlessly in my folder, maybe from 2015/10/09 (?) well, around the time I posted something about You're beautiful, because I watched this one right after that, to compare it, of course. Now, the time has passed and I'll be able to judge my first impression and edit a bit my thoughts. Anyway, it'll follow the original, here we go..
This is what I wrote back then->
Ok! I'm back! uso! liar! why so many exclamation marks? Then today I want to ramble a couple of words, just because I've been away a little, and it wasn't because I didn't want to write, but I've been in a little of a break or a forced break ... it's like I'm out of words... Anyway, I'll just write because even though this time I don't feel like the words could flow so easily, I still want to do it, 'cause I can't help it, it's like having a bright white canvas in front of me, right?
So, I think I'll have a bit of trouble trying to organise my ideas. First of all, I remember I mentioned my friend who is a Kdramas' fan, well, maybe a Sukkie's drama's fan, that's more accurate. Well, she made me watch a couple of his works including his infamous Kimi wa Petto movie version, that was painful!!! But I won't write about that now, nor never ... LOL. Anyway, my first Kdrama was You're Beautiful. But I won't talk about that neither! Anyway, there's a lot of highlights on that drama, and I think it's an excellent choice for an introduction to Kdramas' world, did I sound experienced? But the thing is that, despite it was such a good experience I couldn't help it and decided to watch the Japanese version.
Tama-chan
And that's a wow, an introduction to this other J-pop band and certainly an eye opener experience

LOL I love that little kitten, it's a kitten, right? or a pig? But staying in focus, I discovered about this Kis-my-ft2 thing and I have so many questions, and not about the name * I'm surprised about how fast I can accept the nonsensical acronyms on Johnnie's bands* OK, getting back to the arisen questions they were like, who is that Ren guy?! (O.O) and why are there like 7 of them?! Isn't that like too much? Gomen Tama-chan! I'm used to a gonin band... But the thing is that his name, was sooooo much easier to remember, you see? I'm already calling him Tama-chan. Can't remember any of the others' name though, yes this is how unfair I am. But I can totally tell how they are divided in 3-4 schemes and I'm totally watching the 2 seasons of Nobunaga no chef. Plus, I totally like the single My resistance. They are totally growing on me (>.<), and why do they hang out so much with SMAP? I guess it's because they are on that division, so, I don't have time for other fandom, but you are interesting, Kisumai,... so the review, right!

So, this is the dorama that got me into Tama-chan, why? Here, he plays Ren the Jang Keun Suk's japanese counterpart. So much easier to remember, Ren, you see? Anyway, you know that the plot is pretty lame and cheesy; and it kind of works for the Korean version because of the lightness of the drama, you knew it was sort of a comedy that didn't resemble reality so much. So, I think it was pretty hard to adapt it into a J-dorama, since according to my experience J-doramas tend to put much focus on drama and real life bits. The doramas are tender, endearing and want to make your heart melt a little, maybe they push a little too hard into trying to convey this humanity that maybe is lacking in real life, but that of course is just my perception, like thousands of km away. * Plus I'm not forgetting about Hawaii!! (ToT) *
So, into the topic, ((+_+)) from episode 1 the story is conveyed with much more deepness in a Japanese style. We are presented the characters under their light. We can judge the truly intentions from Mio and also Ren. And the orphanage part was amazing, to me, who had already watched the Korean version first, made me wish for an entire different plot from the Japanese point of view... but the rest of the plot until almost the end is very faithful to the original idea.
Don't they look cute together?
The handsome guys
Mio is the gender-bender character trying to play the part of a male idol instead of her injured twin brother. So, she needed to hang out with the band mates. But we can see she is a nice hard-working girl who is still very innocent. The band mates are the leader, Ren, who has a cold and awkward character, a little different from the one in the Korean version. I think Tama-chan conveyed that cold side as a clumsy shyness more than a blunt superiority complex like his Korean counterpart. And I think that is one of the main points into making his character more lovable, approachable and also cute, I can't think of *insert here Korean name for Ren * as cute or tender. I think Jang Keun Suk's character was incredibly well portrayed and with such an amazing weight of personality that is awesome, but I wouldn't want to approach him, I mean he would only had accepted someone who is able to be in as inferior terms as Go Mi Nam.
Here the names, so easy to remember!
The Korean actress was super cute, funny and also dumb. So, after a while she was just annoying and I didn't like the difference in dominance when they were together. But this never happened in the Japanese version, I especially liked his words when he tells her that she is an important person who was in charge of singing his song. That allows you to tell that he appreciated her in terms of human being before falling in love with her, or in the process of doing so. I can't say the same about Go Mi Nam's case.
This scene was really sweet
So, Mio was super cute and played a really accurate portrayed of a kind of silly heroine. She is not as cute as Korean Go Mi Nam, but she is slightly behind. Plus the chemistry between Miko and Ren was perfect, they looked super cute together and their relationship seemed much more balanced.
For the character of Ren, it was actually quite of a challenge, especially because of the precedent. Sukkie was so into the part and was super hilarious, so I think it is a plus for Tama-chan to be able to stand in the part in this different approach and yet being funny and charming... To tell you the truth I loved his character, he was super super charming and it demanded for Tama-chan to use his facial expressions way more than in his comfortable zone. *He hardly has those expressions in NnC and it's a pity.* Some of them looked a little forced, but some fit better and not only helped into the funny mood but to portray real emotions, and to show his awesome facial features!
The weird piggy-bunny thing, I don't remember the exact name! haha
And of course he saves her a lot, he's also sort of guilty though
Shu's part is painful as the third part in the triangle. But it felt more pathetic the way the story is told in the Korean drama, I mean him..who can remember his name, sorry! Korean Shu, had so much more time to waste trying to make some light get into dummy dummy Go Mi Nam with zero results!! In here Shu is more expressive, maybe because that Korean guy suffered from Pi's Buzzer Beat syndrome, I always enjoy saying that! He has a pretty face, but that was all he ever showed!, while Fujigaya Taisuke was able to transmit more tenderness and real life emotions into a character with a lame story.
This! I laughed so hard at this, but it's the cruel truth, at least in my opinion
Finally Yuki, he plays Jeremy's character. Let me say just this, to make this short, Jeremy was a fool, yes he may looked good, "may" because of that horrible hair styles, but he was playing silly most of the times, plus that precious scene for many fans where he sings, I think that was just to state that he can sing, nothing more. I mean that was out of context for me, I didn't like him more than as comical release, so it was a big no for that scene, yeah he can sing, yeah he can cry, news for you, you are not even in the triangle! Sorry about that, so, Yuki, he made me recall Ikuta's Nakatsu, whom I loved, I think he played his part really fitting for the character and I tend to love crooked teeth. *my weird tastes, his smile is super cute! but yes he could do something about that, btw he is a HSJ! guy* Hikaru Yaotome.
Yuki! He was funny
The truly beauty
So, this is a remake of a very famous Kdrama, so I can understand a bunch of fans not liking this, in order to stay faithful to the original, I can also see the difference that it makes the length of the episodes and the number of them. There's also the thing about the quality of images, open spaces and the time the Korean one devotes just to show us a nice view, which btw I did enjoy a lot, it's rare to find that in Jdoramas.
And a cameo!
But, it all depends on your taste. In my case I'm way too influenced by what I've been watching the last couple of years, and I want to stay truthful to that. The tenderness of the Japanese one, the approach to the culture I was already familiar with, the imitations with boy bands, the manager's YOU, the love chu, how hard the screenwriters tried to portray reconciliation and character transformation and just people caring. I wouldn't change that for some good-looking-with-one-expression guy, nor for a just plain egocentric yet extremely capable guy and certainly by a too-good-looking-and-talented-for-the-part blond guy. No, it's about the magic behind. I can't understand how girls keep claiming that IDS's guys are ugly, they are real idols you know!, maybe not in the way Korean's are. Plus the real ikemen guys know how to portray that tenderness which makes them appealing to girls. Plus they looked to each other with different expressions, and you can actually feel some brotherhood between them. I liked the chemistry portrayed by the Kisumai's guys.
But If you can't find that magic, don't worry, I'm sure there's a full bunch of Korean dramas with your type of beauty and your type of taste, just don't call mine ugly, 'cause beauty is in the eyes of the watcher.
So cute!
The marks
In the end, I have my respects for the Korean version, specially for Jang Keun Suk's interpretation, that was hilarious, but in terms of tenderness and heart-warming scenes, I keep coming back to the Japanese version and Tama-chan's super cute Ren! Plus the episodes were so long in Korean version and 16 episodes are way too much, I can't help but that's what I'm used to.(´・_・`)
So, just for those girls who say my ikemen are ugly, this is a 4, it may not beat the original but I do prefer this one, I wish I had watched this one first.
But I do appreciate the process, it was the inverse from my first experience. To start with, my first choice was a Taiwanese and a Korean drama, I didn't pass the first episode from neither. But the great thing about tastes, is that there's something for everyone, you just have to look for it and stick with it for as long as you feel comfortable. And occasionally you can also appreciate a nice work, but, of course it's always super comfy, by the end of the day, to say tadaima!
So, I'll blame my Sukkie's fangirl friend for baiting me into Tama-chan and Kis-my-ft2 music. LOL, that was an unexpected turn. Next I'll ramble about Nobunaga no chef. ♪(^_-)-☆ Did I mention I like Tamamori Yuta?
Jaa ne!
Lol, I love to read my old words, this was so baited! towards Tama-chan, actually my opinion about this dorama hasn't change, I do come back from time to time to it, just to feel amuse by its cheesy tenderness. And I didn't mention it, but the music, was not as good as in the Korean drama, although so much repetitive there. And Tama-chan is not really so strong at singing, but I like their single for this, Everybody go. And there were rumours about the second couple in here too.
About Kisumai, I did listen to their music, but it really bothers me how many times the word kiss appears in their lyrics, can I say that? Lol, but I'm still interested in them, and I actually quite enjoyed Tama-chan's first movie.
And this shows my sort of excuse when watching doramas, discovering one Johnnys out of time, or with each dorama, that's why I want them to act and to improve, of course. And I think I have one more review somewhere, but that will be for next time. Ah, also these caps aren't mine..
