Sunny Girl

May 24, 2014 23:45

Ok, so lately I've been trying to get my pace back, after finishing with Nazodi movie subs and passing an important subject; and this time, I'm returning to my lj with this review, the girl in the sunny place, or damakano, who said that?, I bet it was Aiba-chan! (^o^)

やっぱり

Anyway, let's start with this... and, an aside note will be that I kind of feel like with the aims renewed, after achieving one of my goals for this year and after reading a blog that really inspired me to keep it going, arigatou, btw if you want to check it then here. And also unrelated I want to check on First Class, I loved the girl in 1 Litre of Tears, so...

The Sunny Place

I think the reason why I like romantic stories so much is because I want to listen to them be told. That's the best part of it, even though when you live one of them, isn't it the best, when it happens to have a happy ending, and you can recall it from the beginning and even more when you can make the other person tell it from his/her perspective? *that was a long kind of question (x_x)* I think that is the best. I love love-stories, and specially the ones with a happy ending, well... at least with a period of time of happiness, isn't it the best? Two people just enjoying the time spent together.

The magic

I think of that as the magic, the magic of finding the right place to be, the right person to be with and the right moment. Just that, it's a lot.

About why it was sunny

Ok, about the plot, I think it's more or less known, I mean this guy Kosuke \(◦’⌣’◦)/ ♥ happens to meet this girl Mao,* yes Mao * and as stated in the genre, they fall in love. Or as jdoramas' fan had stated when Domyouji meets Nodame. But the girl has a secret, which btw I won't state nor give specific hints, but I think I'll do another entire post just to gloat about it in detail. All I can say is don't worry that much about the secret, 'cause the magic isn't there.
As side notes I can mention that this was based on the novel with the same name, and the it was filmed in the Shōnan area of Kanagawa Prefecture, situated along the coast of Sagami Bay in central Japan. I always love when we get to see the beauties of a particular area. And the last note would be about the director, who is the same from Bokura ga ita. I loved those movies, at least in terms of camera angles and specially the lighting, but I haven't reviewed then, why? gomen Ikuta! <^_^;)

Matsumoto Jun + Ueno Juri

Enoshima

About the sunny couple

Well, in this movie we had two well-known actors by previous really strong roles, so, it would be natural to speculate about their actual chemistry on the big screen. But rest assured, their chemistry is one of the biggest factors for this to be a success, that, alongside the exquisite direction. So, Kosuke, played by Matsumoto Jun, is a low-profile yet good looking guy, who happens to be shy with girls. This can be a little weird because we can see how handsome he looks; * (o^v^o) * yet he can be convincing about his awkward manners and being a little cold, but also showing a deep tender heart.

Imagine him at your working place!

Kosuke

About Mao, I mean Ueno Juri, it's true that her character looks a little more than a bit to Nodame, *well, at least to what I know about Nodame, 'cause I didn't finish it out of desperation*, but much softer and cleaner (-_-#). She doesn't sound annoying in the way she speaks and she looks great, yes even with that hair. She can convey that "bouncing around aura" in such a cute way that her character is refreshing and inspiring, just like when the director shows us her against the autumn sun.

The Sunny Girl

Mao

About the actors who play their teenage version, I think it was great to have different characters instead of them, that gave a bigger weight of realism. But mostly because the girl who plays young Mao; she really looks identical, like a younger version of Juri playing Mao LOL. She is awesome, she is actually even cuter and looks more innocent; just the perfect choice (=^_^=). About the young version of Kosuke, well, it's hard to find someone who resembles Matsujun, specially because of his strong facial features, so he wasn't as convincing as the girl. But the camera angles help a lot to find some features in common; he is also awkward, but again I think it was a different kind of awkwardness. * or maybe I'm too familiar with Matsujun's one and couldn't recognize that in him *

Young Mao, super cute + Young Kosuke

And about the little kid that plays really young Kosuke he was super cute! and could interact much better than Matsujun -the grown version of Kosuke- with the cats. *we know why...*

About the ones out the light

One of the things that many people mention about this movie is how much it is centred in the main couple, and it is so indeed, that's why we get to see only bits of the surrounding world; not that I complain though.
We get to see a little bit of Kosuke's family, just the mum and the little brother, who also happens to be around when is grown up and with a weird hair cut, he is also cute.
About Mao, we get to know her parents, an older couple. They really seem to love Mao.

Mao's parents

Kosuke's bro, he is cute

Then there is also some people at their working places. The guy who works with Mao and seems to have some interest in her, he is a little annoying. Then we have the senpai in Kosuke's company, he is one of the thieves in Nazodi movie, he is really tall compared to Matsujun and provides some humour release, as well as his kohai, she is funny.

Working place

The girl and I couldn't help it (;^ω^)

Mao's working place is a lingerie business

And finally the adorable family next door, who had this super cute boy who watchs on Mao and Kosuke. Isn't theirs like another love story which we do not get to see? and why does it look soooo simple for the guys next door??

About the sunny views

Well, the truly delight during this movie is to be able to enjoy the views, like in a nice ride. The pastels colours within the sun lights are just like a peaceful autumn afternoon before the sunset. There are a lot of open spaces that gives the idea of an wider sky. I love them, specially the first time the two of them go out chasing sexy and obscene advertising, how bizarre is that?, I enjoyed it, how it turn out to be super cute without being cheesy or overdone.

Taking pics

The slow motion cameras help a lot to convey their deep emotions. Plus the camera angles! they are beautiful, I love it when everything is shown from a new frameworking, like the heights of the camera and where it focus, not just in the important moments but in general. It's nice to be able to witness this story from a new perspective.

Autumn colours

And their cuteness

And against the sun

And finally the little details spread here and there from Mao's secret, I enjoyed trying to check them all. (next post topic) (=´∀`)人(´∀`=) I think the way this story is told it's my fave part, specially the retrospective angle from which we get to appreciate the deepness of their bond.
About the music, I think it's enjoyable, it helped conveying that hopping around in Mao's character and the ecstatic emotions it produced in Kosuke. I love the Beach Boys song, "Wouldn't it be nice", this song was also used in My 50 first dates, I really like that movie too, lol so different... Anyway, even though it is a little weird how the lyrics appear on a black background, I found that useful, specially because English it's not my first language, and when a song has a nice melody I tend not to focus on the actual lyrics, so to be able to read them in this environment helped me to get how much accurately they fit this couple. So, sorry for the English speakers or the Beach Boys fans, but I did like this part.
The song, Hikari to kimi e no rekuiemu, at the end by Tatsuro Yamashita, he is the same singer in Bara no nai no hanaya was also sweet but sadder. Does he always includes the "zutto" highlight in his lyrics?

And the super small and adorable details!

ブライアン がいない

Their place looked super comfy

The weird cat lady's place

The weird cat lady + Kosuke's place, super tiny

My marks

Well, this was a long awaited and even though I tried to avoid it, I did have some expectations; and because just can't watch on the theaters here I just had to wait...* looking at gifs, trying to avoid spoilers (ノД`)・゜・。 *

Kyaaa

But at the end, I was not dissapointed. I didn't have many expectations about the plot, and avoiding spoilers was hard...But like I pointed out at the beginning, the fantasy element is outshone by the great chemistry and cuteness of the couple that succeed into portray a believable and solid love couple. My marks should be a 4 and a half, 'cause I'd love to watch on any lazy afternoon, specially on a rainy day like today. *If only I wouldn't have a headache, ...work, classes, and life in gral.. (;ω;)*

The best laziness

In general terms, it covers what most people expects from a romantic movie, great couple, great chemistry *the lying on the afternoon sunlight on a autum peaceful day was by far my fave part!
╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ and the one when Kosuke holds her really tigh until it hurts, I love those kind of hugs! Even though I also complain (゜ー゜) * and great views!

絶対見て

And, at the end I love this quote by another fan's review:
"In fact, you know what’s even more surprising? How much emotional resonance it’s able to undo, long after the credits roll."
I totally felt this! (*ノωノ) I mean I didn't cry until the movie ended, just because I also want that so much, to be able to share those sunny moments with the person you feel bonded by destiny to share life, and sometimes there's no fantasy, there's just life happening, but at least I could recognize how beautiful those moments are by having enjoyed them at least once. *weeping a little*

This sofa was one of the best things

If you don't like rainbows and flying unicorns. Meaning=The cons ->

Yes. I'm doing this for the first time, that it's me, the little cat lol.
Well, after spend some time around on internet, I recalled a little bit that there are various opinions around the web, as many as people around the world actually. So, to make it short, let me tell you I decided to put something of my objective piece of opinion here, so if your tastes are different, you can know what to expect by having at least a non biased opinion. Let's start with this Sunny Girl. Ok, this movie is always at the edge of cheesy but has certain charming at the core, so that's a plus. The slightly warm chemistry between the main characters can be transmitted despite the glowing and overly displayed slow motion. Now, the twist seems to be incompatible-with-life to some people, personally it didn't bother me, but if it bothers you, it'll probably ruin for you, the last 40 min or so. So, if you don't like rainbows and flying unicorns, then this is not the right movie for you, yet it is still appealing to the eye and have some good un-cheesy-yet-sweet-moments, just don't take so seriously the little fantasy twist, for your own good. ((+_+))

*Gifs aren't mine, and the caps are from the making

Ok, that's it, a long rambling, and btw I decided to give Juri another chance and I'm prepared to watch Swing Girls, an oldie, like I tend to enjoy.
And about GUTS
I'm late, but I ♡♡♡♡ it

And this always reminds me of...
