Lately, I've been wanting to do so many things and yet can't do them, LOL it's the story of my life, but let's talk about this song. I rarely listen to previews, I don't like to do that, but caught this on Twitter or I was caught by it. The last update is that I'm still so much in pain with it~
This :D
This is from their latest single, which is the opening for Hanyo no Yashahime, I can't say anything about the main song, but this coupling song from the regular edition, I think, it's nothing but delightful. Everything from the music, lyrics, and vocals is amazing and super enjoyable, especially if you like sad songs, and that's my case. I was waiting for the lyrics from my usual source, but had no luck till now,
here's the source for the kanji this time. My translation will be within the lyrics in italics. I'm sorry about my mistakes, it must be the torn pieces of my heart getting in the way~
SixTONES
Gum Tape
Lyrics: uno blaqlo, 51Black Rat
Composer: uno blaqlo
[I remember]
I still remember,
as to spice up the stereotyped date
(going to) an air-conditioned real state agency,
when looking at you, you were grinning and enjoying yourself.
I mean, the arrangement of rooms is something I'm also interested in
Plus the exterior looked so modern.
The conclusive factor is, yes, it's beside a convenience store
There was nothing but our future ahead...
Yeah, I still remember,
even now, that day when we unlocked the door for the first time,
the wind when opening the windows.
In a room full of cardboard boxes,
we opened the cups we had just bought
and drank coffee.
Yeah, tomorrow and the day after that,
we thought about adding more...
Don't forget, at least don't forget
that this love certainly existed.
Gum Tape
What held us together was more fragile than thread, it was Gum Tape.
In a place filled with cardboard boxes and laughter overflowing
"I'm sure this will be fine" And at this hour, right now
You are ... you are... waiting for your luggage with someone else.
I still remember,
the fight that night
despite bumping into each other I felt love,
while our life together was slowly cracking.
One line: "Shouldn't we just stop?"
I was stunned. This is a birdcage.
Who the hell are you? Who on earth are you?
I still remember
the stage curtain went down too soon
the whole thing felt pathetic, a not so funny charade
it's not a drama, after all
so I guarded my heart like it was someone else's.
Don't forget, at least don't forget
that this love certainly existed.
Gum Tape
Joining together these overflowing memories and a heart torn into pieces with Gum Tape
Crying like an abandoned cat in a cardboard box
"If only we'd never met", well, there's no answer for that, right?
You will...you will... be overwritten by someone else.
Oh…
Oh…Ha…
Oh…Ha…
Oh……
The world left for me is a room where only warmth remains
where only the soliloquy echoes so beautifully.
"Little by little, it's over" I wonder if that was the right thing to do.
I'm... I'm... still even now...
Gum Tape
What held us together was more fragile than thread, it was Gum Tape
In a place filled with cardboard boxes and laughter overflowing
"I'm sure this will be fine" And at this hour, right now
You are ... you are... waiting for your luggage with someone else.
Cardboard Love
Cardboard Love
Cardboard Love
Cardboard Love
A cardboard Love, handle with care
A cardboard Love, not suitable for tunning
A cardboard Love, it's fragile
A cardboard Love, now, both of us are free from it...
[T|M]: This song is so beautiful! Those are my notes, bye~ No, but seriously, here we have beautiful music, I love it, and heartbreaking lyrics. I loved the lyrics as soon as I started working on them in detail so much more because they tell a story, they are so much soaked with imagery of memories, they look vivid and palpable. There are also a couple of recurring metaphors for their love, such as all the cardboard boxes' references and the gum tape as well, everything pointing to something ephemeral, but it's only referred to as fragile.
- From time to time I've added a couple of words or more like connectors in order to make the story easier to read in English. The style in Japanese is really, as usual, very much Japanese-poi, what I mean is that it's somehow rather vague and mostly hinting signs here and there, where you can connect the dots, so in that sense, this is my scheme, my dots-connection plot, if that makes sense in any way.
- First stanza and the voices already! Is this Juri singing at a fast pace? I love it! and the story begins. I love the casual style of the narrative, it's something that I hope you can appreciate as well in English, if not, then, trust me, it's there in the original.
- Okay, I'm not good with identifying them, is it Yugo or Shin? I think it's Shin and someone else later? I have to check this soon. Then, the main scene, the cardboard boxes are introduced here and so many vivid memories, sensorial memories, I struggled with the verbal tense here, because in the original it is told as it's happening now, he's seeing the memory now, he remembers as it was happening now, it's the same with the first stanza, he's seeing her smiling, it's so sad!!
- Next super short stanza is the reason the preview caught me, it's the reason I decided to work on these lyrics, it's Jesse, right? with so much pain! it's my favorite part, the ending line goes something like "This love was surely there." but I wanted to phrase it as it existed, for some reason or emphasis in my mind~
- And then the sort of chorus kicks in and it's Taiga during the last part emphasizing the pain. What I like about this part is the little parallelism between what he thought back then and what he's thinking now, like it was like "I know this will work out" and now, his lover is somewhere else with someone else.
- Next stanza, and one of the hardest to translate, for me at least. And this is Yugo, right? Regardless, it's the usual problem, no pronouns to be found, I appreciate the ones in the part that repeats, the "kimi wa...kimi wa..." but no one here. About the birdcage, I think it could also be "I'm in a birdcage" as I'm trapped, it is used the term, I believe, when someone is so in love with someone else that that person is like trapped by the other, he/she is his/her captive. That's all the connection I can think of.
- Next stanza and it's Hokut0's turn, hands down he's the absolute best in conveying pain, angst, and despair with his voice, this man was born to sing heartbreaking lyrics. Thanks, Hokuto! This part is like the most explanatory, it's just telling the singing person's real feelings, and the last part is the one that's the most interesting actually, does it mean that he did little to no effort to change the situation, he just accepted to guard his heart against more pain? He says he guarded his heart as it was from someone who was not involved in the relationship. I understand that too much... like, sometimes pride is more powerful and you just face the results whichever they are. And drama, it means doramas, and I restrained from using "this isn't a movie" which would have been my first choice.
- Super short favorite part and this time it's Taiga's turn. I love it, but I think I prefer Jesse's in terms of showing pain, lol.
- A beautiful variation from the main chorus, and I have no idea who's singing the last part, is it Yugo? I can't tell his voice... I loved the inclusion of the cardboard again, he was abandoned... and two things, I've asked myself too many times that question...the question, in my mind, completely would be "what would have been of me if I hadn't met you" and "overwritten" this is certainly interesting. The verb is used with the meaning of overwriting a file, data. So, my first thoughts were someone else was going to write something new about her, but maybe it's also, that someone else will write over his memories sometime in the future. Like these painful memories will be overwritten with someone else in the future. There, revenge, lol, I guess this could be read as a wish to move on.
- The oh ah part, beautiful!! I heard Shin a lot at first, but I'm not sure... And a beautiful stanza following starting with Juri, hello Juri, I missed you! I have no idea who is after Juri (maybe Jesse? LOL, I can't tell when he sings like normally!!), and after that it's Yugo? and by the end of it, is it Hokuto?, I think... LOL, I have my doubts there. Either way, is the person singing still in the same room? or did his lover just move out? that's a bad choice...staying there... because it's implied she's moved out, that's why she's waiting for her stuff somewhere else. Oh, and the implied idea by the end I think it's he's still in love with the other person.
- The end is amazing! I love it because it's a very different stanza, and it's full of rhymes, that's the main highlight of the end. I used the different translations for "fragile" and "handle with care" because I couldn't refrain myself, LOL. And I think the tuning was in the sense of "adjusting" like a kind of love that doesn't allow much adjusting... well, I do like cardboard as a material for crafting, but I don't think that's the point here LOL. And like I said, in English, it's not reflected but in Japanese is a sound play, the whole last part, try listening to it. And listen to Juri, 'cause he sounds amazing in this song.
So, that's it, an analysis stanza by stanza, because that's what I do when I love the lyrics to bits. Please, Stones, keep doing this sort of song, I love them each and every time a little more. I love that this time the melody is so nice, like bouncy for lack of a better description and it's so contrasting with his abandoned state.

I think I like FASHION, I like the idea, but it kinds of reminds me of some other song in not a good way, lol, it doesn't make sense, my excuses, lol. Either way, SixTONES are always worth giving a listen to.
Of course, I'll be waiting for doing the video if they sing this in Shokura, and I think they'll have a YT video soon, so I'll link it here when that happens. I always add things later on for Sixtones~
I've added just above! I'm excited because it was Shin!! I thought it was him, but I wasn't sure at all, I didn't even want to write down my prediction, but it was him, I think he's the highlight of the YT video tbh, it's a pity when they do this sort of vocal division because we don't get to hear the other members in the short version, regardless the video is precious, enjoy it!
Lo prometido es deuda
So, it took so long~ for them to sing it in Shokura and for me to upload it here lol, it's just that I was waiting for a nice raw. So, I remembered and it's here, what's funny about this, is that I've listened to this song a lot but here in Shokura performance it's the first time I hear Juri clearing his throat, lol.
There's really no point in writing random facts from RL here or excuses on why I haven't had much progress on my projects... but today was my first day at school, my first classes, I ended it exhausted!!
Unrelated but lately I've been pretty much into dramas other than Jp, why? not even me having a reason, but it's so weird depending so completely on subs and not being able to look away for a second. I then get back to listen to Japanese and it's like my ears open! LOL
Let's end this with beautiful fanarts~
