Continuing from the cliffhanger, Uta sees the man who was stabbed with a knife is still barely clinging on to life. Not knowing what to do he calls out to her brother.
Far away back in Waki's workplace, Magane claims he heard Uta calling out desparately and leaps off. Finding Uta by the river he is surprised to see her crying (Magane looks so cute here, desparate with his little ears pointed up XD) Uta begs Magane to cure the man's wounds as he's still alive. Magane licks away Uta's tears and gives her a reassuring smile (so cute here too XDD). Waki walks in just when Magane kisses the man, curing his wound. Waki's face is filled with jealousy. Magane notices Waki and runs up happily to him. Uta gently wipes the man's face with a small smile.
Waki demands, "Who is that man?"
Magane replies, "Don't know."
"Why did you heal his wounds when you don't know who he is?"
"Because Uta was hurting so much that she cried. If Uta cries Rikiichi will be sad, I am Rikiichi's kami, the people Rikiichi wants to protect I will also protect."
Waki's face turns grim at this, Magane notices and looks up with his ears down like a child who done something bad (needless to say - so cuute!).
Back at the house, the two men that were saved are shocked to see each other (later you learn the man Yukino saved is Takamitsu, and the one Uta saved is Takamitsu's younger brother. The younger brother's name is mentioned but I don't know how to translate it from chinese. Help is much appreciated!)
Takamitsu exclaims the wound on the other man's face is gone, how? Rikiichi comments so this is the man Magane saved, not bad looking. In the back, Kanoe picks up Magane tells him to apply the medication and put on a change of clothes (always laugh seeing Kanoe in motherly mode :D).
Rikiichi introduces himself to the two, telling them straight out this is not a normal village, there is some secret that he is unable to tell them. Originally Waki told him to eliminate those two, Rikiichi decides their life and death will be determined by their performance.
Outside Waki stands alone by the tree where he buried the wolf. Magane crawls uncertainly out calling his name. Getting no reply, he turns back into a wolf, looking up at Waki with sad eyes. Waki at last responds to Magane calling out his name. Magane turns back into human form, Waki chuckles saying his ears and tail are still out. Magane cries Waki finally smiled, sneezes. Waki wraps his arms around Magane to keep him warm, Magane asks if he's not allowed to heal wounds of people other than Rikiichi. Waki sadly answers, "I created you kamis only to protect the kotodama user. As long as Rikiichi is a kotodama user, you must not help any others heal their wound."
Later that evening Rikiichi tells Waki he decided to keep those two men in the village. Waki already guessed this would be what Rikiichi will do. One of the men with all his finger nails ripped, and the other with a knife wound on his stomach, they can't be anything good. Waki tries to convey this to Rikiichi, Rikiichi admits it was Yukino who asked to keep Takamitsu. It's very rare for his daughter to act spoilt, he wants to dote on her. Rikiichi confidently adds he has a good eye for people, besides in a simular way he picked up a good man like Waki by the river.
Waki thinks, no matter what, Rikiichi has a way of flipping his moods, he can say things that will make Waki not want to leave his side. Rikiichi is the one who gave him courage and a purpose to continue living. Waki decides for that he will seal off the bitterness in his heart.
In the guest room the younger brother wonders what kind of place this is, hard to believe there is still such an olden place in this age. Takamitsu angrily tells him not to call his name directly, his hand still hurts terribly, everything that's happening now is reality.
The younger one replies he wasn't the one who asked them to heal him, is Takamitsu mad because they didn't heal him as well? He also says mockingly that was a shameful act Takamitsu put up begging them not to kill, but good thing they decided to spare their lives. He hopes Takamitsu will not put a knife through his stomach again. Takamitsu replies back with spite.
On the other side of the door, Uta heard their conversation.
