The idea of communication with beings on a higher plane of consciousness has been pervasive in Western culture since, y'know, forever.
Maybe it would make more sense if we look at it in a historical sense. People of a certain religious fervor can often be heard to make reference to speaking with Angels. Aleister Crowley did it, Terrence McKenna (the nerd) did it in South America, John Dee talked to Queen Elizabeth about it, an Angel dictated the Quran to Mohammed, Southern Baptists and snake charmers talk to God every Sunday.
The important thing to recognize from these discussions is that we only see one half of the conversation. Barring that all of these people exhibited some form of Schizoid behavior, what was really going on? (I can't give you the neuroscience relating to the brain's hemispheres, which section control religious visions/thought, but give me enough time and I'm sure I'll fill these parentheses with some interesting links) Perhaps Joan of Arc had an unusually seizure-prone brain, but think of the things she was able to accomplish, even if she was totally cray-cray.
For all we know there really could be an angel on the other end of that hotline.
Why do I mention all this? Well, I've been thinking about a few things (all very personal and definitely required
lifeblogging) but on further consideration, that point about personal security is extremely valid. Suffice to say, that I'm more accustomed to writing essays. So, in order to provide more content by which I may strengthen my abilities, well, at least this is something.
