Warcraft for the day

So I played WoW a little this last week, and it's getting better, or more accurately I'm learning my way around the potholes. Finally got to level 30 (don't laugh) and started in PvP on the Battleground circuit. As a seasoned vet (hahahaha) at level 32 I have a few observations.

  • As a Shaman, using 'Chain Lightning' during a melee is a real crowd pleaser. I can stand off to one side and heal all day and seldom get noticed much. I can even 'Earth Shock' and then maul a higher level Mage or Priest (most of the time) and not get a lot of attention. But let off one nice solid 'Chain Lightning' bolt and everyone seems to drop what they're doing to spend a little time killing the Shaman.

  • Every Alliance class hates the Shaman.

  • See above

  • I still like 'Chain Lightning', but it's now more a finishing move. Me or them, I guess it always was, really. But if the fight is almost over with a few Alliance hanging on by a shoestring a nice bright lightning bolt seems to be just the thing to put the icing on their cake.

  • Taking out Mages 1 on 1 is almost too easy. Paladins are harder, as are Warlocks. Rogues are like death distilled - I might as well just fall on my own sword.

  • When the going gets rough, Rogues vanish like a fart on the breeze. There's nothing quite like a 8 on 6 fight that becomes a 8-3 when your crew of Rogues decide it's starting to suck for them. The Shaman is the second to die, right after the Mage but well ahead of the Warrior, who's probably still tanking it and doesn't realize how bad it's about to get.

  • I suck at PvP. No, really. The Shaman is pretty tough and I have good gear, and I still die way to much. Of course almost everyone is well over my level, 38 is typical. But I forget to drop totems, keep myself buffed, use talisman and heal myself. Without those things a Shaman is basically a weak warrior with thin armor. Nice. I'm getting better, and leveling up though, so by the time WoW is no longer played I'll be average.

One other thing; all Alliance classes hate the Shaman. I expect this to change once THEY can have a Shaman after the new expansion pack, but for now I expect a long future of being face down with a rogues dagger in my left kidney. The only real consolation is that Horde players hate Paladins just as much.

Oh well. At least the subscription is pretty cheap.
