Iron Cactus Saturday Night

Well, went to see John play at the Iron Cactus tonight, once I got there, I decided not to play after all, was expecting a smaller crowd, more people there than I had expected. I had the Chicken Fajita Nachos which were actually pretty good, although the chicken seemed a little overcooked perhaps. Good flavor regardless. The tortilla chips they serve there are also quite good. I was glad I decided not to play after I heard other folks play, there were issues with the PA (No soundman in the house for the first hour and 1/2)and the vocals sounded like mud for the most part and there were also problems with feedback, John practically had to wing it, apparently could not hear his guitar on stage. He did reasonably well all things considered. I will likely go to Ross' Old Austin Wednesday night and play instead, crowd there will be much smaller and more into actually listening, plus the sound there was much better IMHO compared to the sound at the Iron Cactus. Ran through a bunch of different songs, finally settled on a Grateful Dead song and two Pete Yorn songs that I feel comfortable with. May also go to check out the open mic at the Watertank ths week or next. Was nice to get out for a change, had an OK time, I think I will start trying to go out twice a week or so, I have been way too much of a homebody.
