Rest in peace,
Vincent Schiavelli. It was always a pleasant surprise when you popped up in a television or film, whether a cranky subway ghost or a gypsy uncle concerned in exacting revenge on vampires, you were always fun to watch.
Home from Ohio for a day before
lindaleeb and I head out to Scotland. I refer to this time between trips as the chode of travel.
Cincinnati was a good time. It served its purpose insomuch as it reminded me why I left. Spent a lot of time with mom and dad, got to see the nieces and hang out over night with the nephew.
Friday afternoon the folks and I met up with Linda and her family for brunch at Bob Evans. I found out later my mom was convinced that the whole thing was so that we could announce we were engaged. Apparently Bob Evans is the appropriate place for such things? I think she's been hanging out with my brother too long. Obviously, she was disappointed and had to settle for sausage gravy (not that I'd consider that settling). Linda's parents gave me travel guides for Scotland, which was very thoughtful.
Friday night I hung out with Kevin, who've I've known since I was two and who has settled nicely into his role as suburban father of two. He's got a swank media setup in the basement and the type of air hockey table you see at Jillians, with the black lights and all.
Left around midnight still wide awake so I stopped off at the dive bar down the street from my parent's house for a drink. They were having a wet t-shirt contest. *SHUDDER*. Never go to a wet t-shirt contest in rural Ohio, even for $2.50 Miller High Lifes.
The family gathering was the standard craziness. My uncle now owns a Ford GT, but claims he lost the keys, so no joy rides. He did have the rear hood open though so we could check it out. Pure insanity.
Lots of family drama, but that happens when your mom is one of ten. Later I was able to catch up with
technotronic at a Waffle House north of the city for some surprisingly good apple pie.
The last 24 hours were spent hanging out with my (almost) 10 year old nephew who is just plain awesome. Together we ran a restaurant, played hockey (Bruins vs. his favorites -- The Mighty Ducks), built a giant robot, and played about a gajillion games of Hangman. That's Christmas.
Happy New Year everyone! See you in 2006!
