So, gave applications and checks to an apartment complex that's very close to my work, as well as being about a block from a mall. They couldn't hold the apartment as long as we'd like, and fearing someone else would get it (I literally overheard someone else in the office asking about the apartments, and there was only one of this type available) I signed up to move in a little earlier than we'd been planning. But I figure the place is cheap enough and convenient enough that paying for a little extra time will even out in the end. Plus which, it gives us the opportunity to move some things as they get packed, so when the time comes to rent the truck it will mostly just have furniture on it. Our lease is still up at the end of June, so the date for the lion's share of the move hasn't change, it will still be renting a truck on the 24th, driving it over the 25th. What I'll probably do is rent the truck and return it here in Pleasanton. I should look for rental places near here.
