i will just tell you right now that no matter where you are in the world, there will ALWAYS be nice people around to help you whether they are your friends, family or just total strangers.
for me, it's been my friend Michelle, who has graciously been providing me with moving boxes. she has her own busy schedule and two kids to look after to boot, but she still takes the time to help me go to her local baby stores to get boxes for me, and she herself reminds her hubby to save extra big boxes that they get from unpacking a/c units and parts for their own shop (her hubby fixes/installs air conditioners). about half the boxes that we've used are entirely from her :)
my sister came up from Tainan to visit me and Kay on the 4th and 5th, and she and my brother in-law were a HUMONGOUS help with moving the bigger boxes (we're talking like 1.5 meter long boxes) to the post office for me in their new 7-seater minivan. my brother in-law is built like a football player, so he was also very helpful with all the moving of the boxes as well :D they saved me like two days worth of moving, and i was sooo happy! sis also helped with watching the kiddies (Kay, my nephew and niece), all the while having thrown out her back during the trip down ^_^;; yea, i can officially say she is Superwoman!!! XD i'm really glad that they came up before we left, because granted it was sad to see them go, i wouldn't be able to see them again for at least a year. it makes me want to cry when i think that the next time i'll meet my nephew and niece, he'll start becoming a big kid and little Zoe'll be the toddler ;_; sigh, i sure will miss all of them... :(
yesterday after getting the okay from hubby on the stuff inside the boxes, i went to the post office again to ship another 4 boxes off to Japan, but i overestimated how handy my hand truck really was and half way through i got stuck. it's a collapsible hand truck, so the wheels fold in for easy storage. i was carrying around over 50 kilos of stuff that day, so the wheels kept folding inward due to the weight and how uneven the road was. i think it was more the later than the former, because i didn't have a problem when i was pulling everything from our apt to the lobby or even from the sidewalk to the place i got stuck. :/ there are a lot of factories in that area, so the roads are very used and cracked from freight trucks driving over them, and the sidewalks are NOT "wheel" friendly, meaning there are no ramps. :(
so, there i was on the side of the road (in the middle of a bus stop no less; thank God there weren't any buses that came!) wracking my head on how to get all the boxes to the post office (which was just a short 50 meters away!!) without having to leave my boxes on the side of the road where anyone could take them. then, divine intervention came along in the form of a few angels dressed as pedestrians and a burly factory worker who helped our stuff get from point A to B, and i was better able to keep Kay safe next to me. ^_^ i offered to buy the last burly guy (he helped me carry things all the way to the post office) a bento lunch from one of the vendors next to the post office, but he respectfully declined to which i thanked him profusely for helping me.
you know, sometimes i think i was put on this earth to let people up their Karma points. ^_^;;
i was saved again today at the grocery store later that afternoon. we'd just finished ringing everything up on the cash register, and i was going to put Kay's new Crocs on so she could get out of the shopping cart, but i realized that one of her Crocs was missing!! D: i'd put them under the shopping cart, because i didn't want her shoes touching my groceries, but i guess one of them slipped and fell off the wire rack :( so, i checked my groceries in at the service counter (you can temporarily put stuff there while your shopping) and headed back inside with Kay in the cart. i retraced our path through the grocery store making sure to look in any trash cans or recycling bins they had. my worst fear was that it'd fallen off and got kicked/rolled under one of the shelves :( those shoes were a pair of pink and blue Crocs that i'd bought on Saturday, and i'd been looking everywhere for a pair of them, so i was prepared to get on my hands and knees as a last resort if i didn't find them. fortunately as we were going down the cereal isle, there was a big recycling bin at the end, and i had an inkling to take a peek inside. *cue holy music and parting of clouds* low and behold, it was right there in the corner of that bin! i was soooooo happy that i'd found it!! XD i took that as a sign to just stay home for the rest of the day. i mean, you can only get so many lucky breaks from the Big Guy in a day, ykwim?
anyway, i'm going to do another post office run this afternoon today, and this time, i'll play it safe. gotta learn from my mistakes somehow, right? ^_^;;
