finally! the "plum rain season" has started and about time too since all of Taiwan was starting to suffer from depleting reservoirs. :( even if i was sad to see the really really nice dry spring weather we were having go, i'd rather have running water than nice weather. :P
now with the warmer weather and the rain, the creepy crawlies have started coming out and unfortunately, our apartment got a couple of unwanted visitors. we've been spending this last week trying to keep the mosquitoes at bay and to keep from being eaten alive when we sleep or generally stay still ^_^;; we also have had a bit of a flea problem which was a very unpleasant surprise. Kay suffered the most throughout this weak with a whopping total of over 30 bites from both mosquitoes and fleas. luckily, the flea bites didn't itch, but they were all over her pretty little face... she basically looked like she had a bout of the chicken pox or something ;_; i'm kinda glad that she doesn't have to go to school until Thursday this week! ~_~;;
at first, we weren't sure that they were flea bites since they weren't anywhere else on her body. so we just assumed that she'd got bitten by a smaller mosquito. i went on a frenzy to try and find a
mosquito net tent, and thankfully, my sister and my uber awesome brother in-law helped me find one online when they were all sold out at the supermarkets near me. they helped me order it, and it got shipped to our place within 24 hrs! :D i also got a couple of Raid mosquito plug-ins to keep the mosquitoes from coming in, but the net really helps me and Kay sleep with no worries at night :)
over the weekend, hubby started getting little red itchy bites all around his body, so he suspected that they were flea bites since he normally doesn't have any reaction to mosquito bites. so, he decided to flea bomb the entire apartment on Sunday, which meant spending the entire day moving things, staying out of the apartment while it was being fumigated, cleaning afterward, throwing out old old old futons, washing and drying bedsheets, pillow covers, comforters, towels, and basically everything that Kay would constantly be in contact with. suffice to say we were all pretty pooped out at the end of that loooooonnnnngggg day! although as tiring as that day was, we got to have a family lunch at Burger King and spend a bit of time at the library reading to Kay, and now that there aren't anymore pesky bugs around, i guess it was worth all that hassle despite all the griping i was making while we were cleaning. ^_^;;
the past couple of Mondays have been playgroup days for Kay. although, she's had to wear a mask for the past two weeks due to a hacking cough she's been having. so in all the videos and pics i took of the fun events we did, you can't really see her face :( we've got a food and nutrition theme going this month and all the moms have gone all out in planning the activities we did. :) i'd consider myself quite crafty, but these moms put my biggest ideas to shame ^_^;;; you'll see what i mean in the videos below :)
anyway, i took Kay to the hospital after our playgroup on the 16th since hubby started worrying about her coughing. it started on the 3rd and it hasn't gotten better since then, so he knew something was wrong. i took her to see our usual ped., and after taking an X-ray, he said her condition was a bit serious and on the "brink" of pneumonia, but could still be controlled with meds at this point. he said that there was a chance that Kay might have been infected with a recent
Mycoplasma Pneumonia bug, that's been going around. :( he didn't do any tests, but asked me if i wanted any meds for that. i heard a couple of moms in my playgroup talking about that bug, so i thought it'd be best if Kay took the meds. so along with all the cough and flem meds he gave us, he also prescribed a bottle of antibiotics. in total, i had to take home 4 bottles of syrup and a dozen packets of powdered meds, which in total added up to almost 20 ml of meds Kay has to take three times a day :( sigh, boy do i miss the days where my immune system could fight for the both of us. all i had to do was breastfeed her and she'd be back to health in no time no matter what the heck she had! sigh...
here are the vids from our playgroup on the 9th and 16th. enjoy! :)
