change in weather + period = getting sick

because of Typhoon MEGI that passed by last weekend, it has been non-stop rain since Sunday! with the rain, came the changing in temperature, followed by Kay getting sick and starting an epidemic in our little home. :P seriously, the rain kick-started the domino affect to a rather tiring week...

i don't normally get sick and haven't gotten sick since last winter, but my immune system is usually quite vulnerable right before my cycle starts, so everything just inconveniently clashed together last weekend.

it started with Kay running a fever in the wee hours of Saturday morning, which basically had me getting a very bad night's rest over the weekend. during the day, she was still quite active and eating regularly, but it was just that darn fever that kept us from really doing anything. luckily, i had that Saturday off to take care of her and we stayed in the whole day. she was so active that she didn't take her usual afternoon nap and just zonked out at 7:00 and slept all the way until 11:30 AM on Sunday. i had class that morning, so hubby had to take care of her even if he was really busy with a few cases that had Monday deadlines. fortunately, her fever broke and didn't come back again Sunday afternoon, so i thought things were over then. sigh, i hate it when i'm wrong...

Monday was when the rain started, and it just didn't let up for the entire week. so, i had to trudge around with my stuff and Kay in tow to our playgroup Monday morning after i'd gone to the clinic near our place to see if she was okay (doc there said he couldn't find anything wrong with her). found out that a couple of the other kids also had experienced the same odd fever, so i guess it must have been a bug that was going around. one of the kids that had had the fever was now coughing and having cold like symptoms, so i guessed that was going to happen to Kay too, although i hoped and hoped that it wouldn't. the only good thing that happened that day was i got a spiffy new umbrella since the one i was using that day had broken. i paid a bit more for it though (NT$590), but i knew instantly that i'd bought something that would last me at least a year and was super chic to boot (it has a lace trim!!) :) the moment i got back home, Kay started hacking up a lung. my heart just dropped and so i decided to take her to the hospital later on that week.

Tuesday, i wanted to take Kay out so that hubby could get some work done and decided to go get her Halloween costume at a Toys R Us in the Global Mall. i originally was meeting a couple of other moms from the playgroup there to shop with them, but i knew they were going to flake on me because of the POURING RAIN that was going on that morning ~_~;; so, i wasn't really that surprised when they didn't show up at the mall. Kay and i still had fun there with our usual Global Mall routine (kids' play area, lunch, pet store, play, shop, and ice cream), but it took me forever to decide on a costume for her! not because there was a lot of stuff there (SO DISAPPOINTING!), but because there were only a few costumes and they were sooo expensive! the first one that caught my eye and totally screamed "buy me!!!" was a Disney Snow White Princess gown that looked totally cute on Kay (wish i'd taken a pic of it!!)! the only thing that kept me from snatching it right away was a NT$700 price tag! gah, darn Disney stuff is so expensive! i was not going to spend that much money on something that she would only wear once a year, and i wasn't even sure if she would want to be Snow White next year, ya know? so since pickings were slim for her age (most of the costumes were for 7-11 year olds), i decided to go with a normal pumpkin dress which was conveniently the cheapest one as well. it was either that or Thomas the Tank Engine, and she chose the dress. ^_^; when we got home and tried it on, it was still really big (it was for 4-6 year olds), so i had to make a few alterations. now, she looks really cute in it, but i won't be taking any pics of it until after the Halloween party on Monday. :)

Wednesday came, and i took her along with me to my private class only to have her symptoms get worse. she started getting a runny nose right when we got there and i knew that she had a full blown out cold then. i felt kind of bad taking her along both for her sake and for the sake of my students, but luckily, they were already sick themselves. the mom was really nice about it and everyone behaved pretty well that day. we got back home, and i went online to schedule an appt with her pediatrician at the hospital near us, but ended up seeing another doctor since Kay's regular ped.'s schedule had changed. the doc just listened around and prescribed some medication for her cough and runny nose. she said that there was nothing wrong with her lungs and that it was a small cold even if she did have a fever. so, i went home afterward and started giving Kay her meds. Kay stayed home for the rest of the week with an occasional trip out with her daddy. she started getting better on Saturday and now is almost back to her old self. i guess it's because of all the sleeping she's been doing lately(sleeps for 14 hrs straight!).

i started getting sick on Monday and it was the worst on Friday and Saturday, but i'm feeling a little better than before today. luckily, i don't have as bad a cough as Kay had, but i can understand where the cough is coming from and why the doc didn't find anything wrong with her lungs. it's from all the post nasal drip that's draining down my throat, so the cough is merely to clear out the flem that doesn't drain and not something that's coming from your lungs. i've been sucking on Sucrets and other cough drops to help keep my voice in tact during class and thank goodness it works :) don't think i'll be able to beat this cold by tomorrow in time for the Halloween party, but i've managed pretty well all through the week, so i'm sure tomorrow will be fine :)

tomorrow is the Halloween party that our playgroup is holding. it's not going to be too big, more like a Halloween themed playgroup meeting, but i'll be dressing myself up as a witch and Kay will be going as a little pumpkin girl/princess :) yes, videos and pictures will be shared. ^_~
