i think this year's birthday would probably be one of my favorite so far. granted i didn't have a party or any kind of formal celebration, i did it my way, which is enough for me and my humble life. :)
as the week began, hubby asked me where i wanted to go for my birthday meal. i immediately said Outback Steakhouse! he was fine with the idea, but later on we decided against it since hubby doesn't like red meat and Kay wouldn't have been able to eat much there. after wracking our brains for another place to go, i finally got fed up and decided to just stay home and have cake. then a little while past and hubby said that he'd take care of Kay that day and let me go see a movie instead, which i thought was even better! so i finally got to see Iron Man 2 and enjoyed it very much. later that evening, we went for a pizza dinner and a little shopping at Daiso. Kay was in a really good mood that day as well since she was able to sleep in for once this week.
however, that good mood ended yesterday morning after i finished my tutoring session. she decided to throw her first blown out public tantrum after we got off the bus, and all because i didn't let her play with my umbrella ON the bus ~_~;; she cried, she screamed, she sprawled out on the muddy sidewalk (thank gawd for her raincoat...) while thrashing her arms and kicking her legs. i did what all the websites i've been reading told me to do: stay calm, keep her out of harms way, and be by her side while trying to calm her down. didn't work for the first 5 min. she was flailing on the sidewalk, so i had to throw her kicking and screaming over my shoulder and haul her off to a place that wouldn't block walking pedestrians. i took her to a little outdoor bubble tea spot across from our building and ordered some bubble tea while she sat at one of their tables screaming and crying bloody murder... ~_~;; i was going to stay here until she calmed down, but as luck would have it, the moment i sat down, more customers started crowding around the little shop ordering drinks and waiting. didn't feel like being gawked at and disturbing their peace and quiet, so i decided to haul her to the crosswalk and back home. at least by then she had let me hold her, but right as we were in the middle of the crosswalk, she wanted down. T_T we got across fine, but she almost fell out of my arms when she tried throwing herself backward during a cry. she still wouldn't calm down all through the lobby (the large lobby really helped with amplifying her screams to DOLBY quality... ~_~;;) and the hallway to our building. she kept screaming and crying while we were waiting for the elevator. some passersby even came up to her and said "calm down", which didn't do anything but i appreciated the sympathy ^_^;; finally, i got her back home where she tried to calm down while in daddy's arms. it took her a while, but she got everything out of her system, and within 10 min, she was her own cheerful self again. this whole process took about half an hour.....~_~;;
i was suppose to take her with me to meet my friend Claire for a late birthday lunch, but after that fiasco, hubby said that he'd take care of her, and i should go by myself. ^_^- after nursing Kay to sleep, i went to meet Claire and she treated me to Baskin Robbins, a steak dinner (got to eat my steak!), and a grande Caramel Macchiato at Starbucks. we went to the Breeze Center food court at Taipei Main Station, so everything was in one place :) it was the first time since i'd had Kay that she and i met with each other alone, so i was wondering what we'd talk about. apparently, i was thinking too much because we talked about everything and anything, from teaching kids (she works at a cram school now), to our old boss at Luby, to our life philosophies! we met around 2:00 and even continued talking as we took the same bus home. it was only after we'd finished talking that i realized that she and i are so much alike! :) no wonder we could gab on about everything for hours :D
all in all, a great two days. now, it's back to work for me...
